Slowdown in cutscenes

I am trying to resolve an issue I have been having here lately.

When I goto cutscene it slows to crawl, but only after I have been playing for awhile. After that if I reboot and load the save right before it happened, it does it again. If I shut down the pc for 1-2 hours and load the save it does the same thing. If I shutdown for a full 8 hours, then try it. It seems to play the cutscenes normally.

I don't understand this, its like I have a certain amount of time that this game works. then I have to wait x amount of hours. Its very frustrating to be enjoying the game, then it goes to crawl.

When I first start the pc and launch the game, the cutscenes play flawless

As I continue playing the game slows overtime.

The video card driving it is 260 GTX 896MB PCI-E with default air cooling

The audio card is a XFI titanium PCI-E

The Processor is Q6600 G0 SLACR Watercooled with Laing D5, PA 120.3, and D-Tek Fuzion Waterblock

The Motherboard is an E-VGA 680i SLI

The Ram is a 2x2GB Kit of PC8500 Dominators.

The operating system is windows 7 64-bit home premium

Sounds like a cooling problem. Try getting more air into your computer, take the side off or stick a fan next to it to blow some air in there. But it's hard to say exactly.

I don't think so, that rig is liquid cooled read it again below.

Very interesting that dragon age doesn't use anything over 2GB of memory and it was designed around a 32 bit OS by default. You would think that 90% of gamers use 64-bit nowadays so the game would usually be written in 64-bit programming language.

Thank you rusty, I will give this a shot.

As the guy who tracked this puppy down off the BSN forums, I have to tell you it's an open question as to whether this "fix" really does anything at all as far as the internal operation of "daorigins.exe" on a 64-bit, >2GB system.

I haven't seen anything from a real programmer to indicate one way or another. I DO know that for me personally, on my rig (Win7x64/Pro, [email protected], 8GB) it seemed to have success in stopping nearly all of the constant Crash-to-Desktop behavior that started immediately after I patched to 1.03. But I'm only a sample set of ONE...

Yeah, but the game engine that they use for DAO is pretty crappy in comparison to some of the engines that were released even 5-8 years ago.

  • 3 weeks later...

you guys, stop it stop it hahHAHAH STOP IT I SAY!!!

it's certainly not his hardware!!! you naughty goblins

buddy, chances are you're running mods that open up dialogues from more origins, such as the "all dialogue choices for any backround" sorta thing

also want to check any sort of overlapping or dialogue/choice tweaks/extenders/etc will certainly caused these sort of 1 FPS/slideshow effects when i first experimented with DAO and pretty much tossed EVERYTHING & ANYTHING i could get my hands on - into my override

i spit you not my friend, clean out anything related to the aforementioned and you have a high chance of coming back to normal, and hey if not, then i'm a fool with no teeth and you were all right all along,

got nothin to lose by tryin & everything to gain if it does work,

use an auto-save from a few maps back if possible, just to ensure a fresh map/resource load you can type refreshmoduleresources in console, save, exit, load back up and jump back in, then jump into a new area

no it wont refresh everything we'd like it to - but it does refresh certain single-file-stand-alone stuff such as utc (depending if in party camp/solo or already in map with resources being used by party members, thats a WHOLE different topic)

"i said it was the cutscenes not the dialogue mr. veteran_lamer, please stay off the crack needles"

yeah? i've been clean for 11 hours that part of my past is long behind me captain planet, you just gotta trust me, a complete stranger that is frightening the children ;]

so.

remove anything that alters or extends dialogue

remove anything that "unlocks" or "unrestricts" race/class limitations regarding dialogues

and if in fact that doesnt help..well...

we are left with no choice...come to my side for a moment brethren

i send you into the unknown with this final gesture in hopes it may aid you in finding peace

kneel my son

in the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit....

slaps you in the face

BE GONE DEMONS!!!

LEAVE THIS MANS OPERATING SYSTEM, FOR YOU SHALL FIND NO SHELTER HERE!!!

slaps you in the face again

YOU WREAK OF SIN FOUL BEAST, INVESTED IN ME IS THE HOLY SMITE FROM THE HEAVENS...AND CLEANSED YOU SHALL....

hahahah, how often will you read somethin that random hmm?

and nice rig too

p.s.

to be honest - i just accomplished something ive been struggling with for weeks and happened to express my excitement, here, through support more or less, haha. so while i come off as completely insane to most civilized human beings, it really makes sense to me - it's okay to be afraid, but relax, i'm here to help & god damn im so happy this finally worked :P

to the batcave!@!!

slaps you in the face again
