well when a program that is installed in its original path (c/program files or c/x86/program files) creates a file it uses 2 folders (im using windows 7 paths) for admins it uses the c/x86/program files folder and for other users it uses c/program files, thats what i was thinking with the mirror thing

and for your idea im not sure, never tryed it, but you dont loose anything trying that

also i forget to ask something quite important (sorry my bad): where did you installed the game in the first place

why im asking that? it becouse someone just sayed me that if something is installed in one of the above mentioned paths then it can have problems becouse of the uac.

and yep i work mostly with vista (and have deactivated UAC and DEP) so i did not know about that issue with 7

I just had an idea. I have a few mods that beforehand, appear in the list of mods I've made as an admin. So....what if I made a quick "patch" mod as an admin that had information from my mod that doesn't show up with the one that does show up...hmmmm? Make any sense or am I just trippin?

Your problem is with "UAC Redirection" - googling this will give you lots of details, but essentially TES CS wants to write files to the Oblivion Data directory (currently in the UAC protected "Programing Files (x86)" directory). The operating system does not want the program to be able to write there so it invisibly writes them to another directory instead. The CS itself doesn't know that - it sees the files because the operating system is lying to it. When you change (i.e. turn off) UAC protection for the Oblivion directory, the redirection no longer happens so when CS opens up it is looking in the "real" Oblivion data directory - not the other directory where your files had been saved before.

Look in your user directory "user\AppData". You will probably see Local, LocalLow, and Roaming directories in there. Underneath one (or more) of those, you will see an Oblivion directory that should have your files in it. Move them to the real Oblivion directory where they belong. Turn off protection on your real Oblivion directory, or else you will have to keep doing this over and over again as you fight your computers security system just to be able to install mods properly.

This is the reason that we commonly recommend that Win7/Vista users install Oblivion in some directory other than the default location - generally recommending c:\Games\Oblvion. That gets it out from under the control of the UAC and prevents many headaches. :teehee:

Alright. I actually understand your guys' ideas about where they are. The only thing I don't how to do is to turn of UAC protection. I searched for UAC options on my computer, and all it came up with was like 50 wav files called User Account Control, and a dial like thingy to control how often my computer notifies me about changes. Where should I look for it at?

I went to the link, but all that it had was the same crap that I can find. All I saw was like 5 different ways to turn down that little dial to notify you when changes are being made to your computer.

Also, why don't you run windows in english? Do you not actually speak English or is it just easier to run in a different language?

i was talking about the second option that fully deactivates the uac and not only hides the pop up

english is not my natural lenguage so thats why i dont own an english copy of windows

i turned off the UAC and DEP whit a program called vista manager, and it has a version for 7 but you need to pay for it.

i use vista in my home and 7 in the university

i cant explain the full win 7 procces becouse i installed the game in c/games so i dont have any problem in that pc, so i never had the need of do that in the past. but i crossed paths with that problem in vista so i have an idea about whats happening to you

  • 5 months later...

well im doing this out of my head becouse i dont have a win 7 computer in my home (only vista) so you can spect some small mistakes

look in your program files first if your esp is not in the oblivion folder look inside the x86 (or it was x64???) folder and look for the bethesda folder

i think win 7 dont have a virtual store but it uses the x?? folder instead

also maybe you can found it using the search bar in your start menu (search for *.esp)

if that does not help just tell me and i check the win 7 computer in the university tomorrow (yay i have oblivion in there)

Go to the start menu and click computer. double click Local Disk (C:). Search .esp in the search bar (for windows 7) and u were right, it showed up for me cuz i had same problem. Guess where it was in... Virtual Store. LOL u are psycic my friend (and yes i spelled psycic wrong big woop). So yea that works.
