NocturneNight
Hey all, I'm just wondering alittle about the system requirments for Oblivion. I took a look at my GOTY-edition today and it says the recommended processor speed is 3 GHz. Now I'm abit worried because my own CPU is only at 2.66. I know jack all about computers, but wanted a decent machine so I purchased an Intel Core 2 quad CPU @ 2.66 GHz. I thought the extra cores would be beneficial, but from what I've heard Oblivion only utilizes a single core, and yeah, now I'm wondering if I'll be able to get a smooth experience. Everything else on my system is fine, I have 3 Gb of RAM and am planning on buying a new Radeon HD 5850 GFX card soon. I'm just worried about the processor speed, so is there anyone who knows if I'll get good performance with that CPU? In good performance I mean a generally lagfree experience without hickups and slowdowns. Thanks, NN
ArmeniusLOD
That 3 GHz recommendation was made back in the days of the Pentium 4, when the pipeline was extremely long and it divided processing power using HyperThreading. The processors today have a much shorter pipeline with one logical thread per core, meaning faster throughput than a P4. Speed accounts for something, but two processors with the same clockspeed and different architectures will perform differently from one another. I run an Intel Core 2 QX6700 (2.67 GHz) myself and the game runs great with Oblivion Stutter Remover. OSR is required if you want to benefit from multi-threading. Any modern graphics card should have no problems running this game, especially with the 1GB+ memory they come with.
