Question about custom textures.

After hanging around for some time, i figured this is the best place to post this. I can't find a direct answer anywhere, the few times i find something related, it's a wall of text which often times don't even offer any kind of answer to my question.

I know how to extract all the vanilla textures from the game's files using FOMM, but i need to know how to extract ones from a single mod.

All i'd like to do is change the color of one armor's shoes. The armor is from a mod, i've downloaded it, got the textures and can modify the armor's stats on GECK, but i can't figure out how to access the textures with FOMM BSA browser, if i was able to do that then i could get to tinker with them on GIMP, the rest i should know.

I hope i'm being clear enough with this. If anyone can help that would be much appreciated.

Do you see the mod's .BSA in the FOMM BSA browser? I take it that you have it in your FalloutNV/Data folder right? It should be as easy as opening it same as you would the vanilla's, I just opened Willow's BSA to check if there's a problem but it opened just fine. Also when you get it open, just type "text" in the search bar to filter the textures from everything else.

If you still are having trouble I can d/l the mod and see if it works on my end.

There isn't one. It doesn't have a BSA file. Is it possible to move the textures into a BSA file? There is a "BSA Creator" option.

Oh, I've misunderstood you, I thought you were trying to open a pre-existing BSA file.

If you have the textures already handy, there's no need to create a BSA file, you should be able to just open the .dds (texture) file of the armor with gimp or paint.net? If it's just a texture in falloutnv/data/textures/XmodX then you should be able to fire up one of those programs and edit away.

If I knew what your mod was I would give you a easy 1,2,3 step answer. Right now I'm just giving you the basics of custom texture editing for any .esp that comes with textures.

Thanks for the help.

The mod is tumbajamba's tactical gear:

The desert camo outfit is almost perfect for me, but the shoes don't match at all in my opinion. I would like to swap them with Merc Troublemaker boots, but my modding skills aren't that high. The best i can do is to alter the shoe textures.

Took a look, it'll be easy to edit the textures from that mod for your personal color preference. I'll PM you after I'm off work in a little bit here and tell you how (seems like it should be super simple if just a re-texture).

Ok, thanks. Appreciate it a lot.

So, these are the texture files (.dds) you wan't to edit in gimp/paint.net. If your tyring to edit the boots, with the initial default outfit provided (I noticed there are pants, pants black, pants desert and pants digital, 4 variations of the outfit), follow this path.

Falloutnv/data/textures/armor/spinat/tactical_gear ---then--the texture your looking for is "pants.dds", or one of the other pants options (you should kow by the look and color if that is your playset texture being used).

The shoe is in the upper center of the opened .dds file, you can freely edit any .dds file this way (with permission of editing, or simply personal usage customization).

Any more questions or confusion feel free to ask.

Don't forget to keep a back-up of any file you're editing! Always helpful to have in case of errors.

It looks so different. Despite that, all the changes i do will show on the in-game textures?

"It looks so different. Despite that, all the changes i do will show on the in-game textures? "

Hence why I advise backing up before editing, the changes may be undesirable in color or throw off the look you're going for. These textures have no light refraction or reflection in this state, but should be the texture you're looking for. I see the boots are much darker than the pants (bottom and middle left of previous posted pic), and I should further know once I'm home (still at the office, just checking things between breaks). I will install the mod, and then I'll verify that what I see is the correct .dds file, and attempt my own random color retexture to test it.

I will be back to you shortly/soon.
