There is a huge difference between the 'official' and 'unofficial' patches. The unofficial patches are actually just mods and can be easily removed. The official patches are true patches that modify the Oblivion.exe file and once installed cannot be undone without a complete reinstall. Installing the wrong 'official' patch can cause the game to crash, or if you use the wrong language version to mangle the language of your game.

 

If you are having problems with as few as 5 mods, you should make a new topic and ask for help. Many people are using well over 200 mods without serious problems.

Don't want to derail but oh well.

I'm using both official and unofficial. Everything is correctly patched and whatnot.

I'm sometimes crashing, but most crashes appear without unofficial patch, that's why I'm using it. As for the mods, I'm mostly using only deadly reflex and my own overhaul which is 75% my work and 25% other mods adapted to it so I have one big .esp without clustercrap of small .esp's that change one little thing and yet give me over 9000 errors with KOTN.esp.

 

I'm still occasionaly crashing but it's not so annoying like playing without unofficial patch.

 

Also while I'm at derailing, do you know about this bug, that somehow causes npc to speak, but his face remains expressionless? He does not move his mouth at all, but the shadows on his face are moving like actually was moving his lips. This most of the times lead me to crash.

 

Sorry again for derail, but you're probably one of the fewest persons that have time and strong will to help people out.

First, lets cover the obvious possiblities.

Do you have the latest official patch installed? v1.2.0146. And is it the one for Shivering Isles and not the Oblivion only patch with the same version number.

Do you have OBSE and are you starting the game with OBSE and not the Oblivion launcher?

Do you have all of the esm s required for your mods?

You should only need the MOBS versions of the unofficial patches or the standalone if you installed Fran's with MOBS. MOBS would just then be a balancing issue, so it shouldn't cause any crashes or weirdness as far as I know. The MOBS versions of the unofficial patches can be found in Patches for Frans 4_5b. If you're using the UOP Supplemental (which you should) then you also need to get the standalone MOBS 1_2_2a and NOT use the version included with the patches for Fran's, in order to retain the changes made by the supplemental but still have MOBS stats (the Fran's patch version is based on v3.2.0 of the UOP). You'll also want to use the Updated Official DLC MOBS version instead of the ones from Fran's patches.

 

As to the number of mods he is running, that shouldn't be an issue. On my system I can run 254 plugins along with Oblivion Stutter remover and play for about 90 minutes before a crash occurs. I guess it depends on the hardware and operating system your computer is using.

 

You should grab Wrye Bash and build a Bashed Patch to see if that helps. If you do, you can get rid of the UOP Vampire Aging & Face Fix and enable it in the Bashed Patch instead.
