You're not asking for much, are you? :P

Honestly, it depends upon a lot of things. Are you playing the Vanilla version of the game? Vanilla + official plug-ins? Some official plug-ins, but not others? What mods are you using? What have you done and where are you? Are you interested in doing the main quest, or would you rather forget about it and just play in the world? What kind of character are you playing?

If you have a high-end computer you could install a mod like Unique Landscapes and get some candy that will knock your eyes out. If you're like me you'll have to go to the console and disable "grass" or suffer a blazing 5 frames per second performance. What you can see depends upon a lot of things, as you can see. I think everyone should play the Vanilla game first and do all the major quest lines (Mages Guild, Thieves Guild, Fighters Guild, and Dark Brotherhood) at least once. Those will take you all over Cyrodiil and you'll wind up seeing most of it. Add in the Daedric shrine quests and you'll see even more of it. There are some remarkably beautiful places in this game. With a little patience you might be lucky enough to witness one of Anvil's gorgeous sunsets.

I'd definitely suggest, right out the starting gate, to do one of the easiest quests in the game by heading up to the north of the Imperial City to the little village of Aleswell and do the Zero Visibility quest. That will get you a free room (with a non-respawning chest for safe storage of your things) for the remainder of the game. There are a few caves to explore on the Imperial Island, itself, and the Ayleid ruin, Vilverin, is right across the water from the sewer exit, although it could be tough for a noob character right out of prison. Put on a few levels by doing things around Imperial City and then tackle it. A good guild to start with is the Thieves Guild, especially since one of its quests will likely get you kicked out of the Mages Guild if you're a member of that one, too, and it's the only guild that you can easily get into without leaving the Imperial City area. You could get into the Dark Brotherhood too, but do a little research on that, first, since you could wind up killing an NPC who turns out to be essential for a later quest if you're not careful, but there are people around the IC who you can murder and get your invitation.

There really are a myriad ways to play this game, and they all depend upon how, exactly, you want to play it out.
