Megatarius
I use Supreme Magicka, which adds a lot of fire themed attacks to the game, and I can't remember if actually being able to catch fire was a feature of the vanilla game or if it was added by this mod. Or maybe by OOO, or Deadly Reflex. Anyway, has anybody addressed the issue of how characters will just stand there (or sit there) burning like it's nothing? I once caught fire, and not only did I just stand there, but I jumped into the water and continued to burn!!! :wallbash: I've tried to find mods that make fire hurt, and make water extinguish it, but nothing. One time I returned to steal back my stuff after being arrested, and the chest was booby trapped. A giant burst of fire filled the room, and I caught fire and just stood there. I turned around to see the guard calmly sitting at his desk, in full flames like it was nothing. Does anyone else find this unforgivably immersion breaking? Ferryt
Are you sure this was a matter of "catching fire" or could it have been a fire damage effect with more than just a one-second duration? Even in Vanilla Oblivion, I seem to recall seeing characters and creatures on fire after being hit with an extended duration fire effect. Unfortunately, water doesn't put out fire in this game ... except torches, but that's either a scripted effect or hard-coded into the game engine. I suspect that if you created a mod with a candle under water the candle would still be fully functional. I haven't actually tried that, though. I agree with you, completely. When characters and creatures don't react to being on fire it bothers me. I've been on fire (in real life, too) and I guarantee I didn't just stand there like nothing was amiss. The only thing on my mind was getting it put out. At the very least this should be a distraction to the target, and that should apply to frost and shock damage, as well. You don't generally just shrug off pain like it was nothing. When that happens, yes, its very immersion-breaking, but keep in mind that Bethesda didn't have us role-playing, immersion-loving nuts in mind when they created this game. They expected us to just buff up and go out and kill the Bad Guys and shut Oblivion gates, and become the leader of everything there is to lead and other such hack & slash nonsense. That's what the young kids who play this game generally want -- that and female characters with mountains for boobs and bikini armor, but let's not go there, since that's a completely different pet peeve I have. (OK, I can take the bikini armor ... in its place). In a more "mature" style of play I'd like to see more realistic reactions by NPCs and creatures to the events around them, especially events that involve them directly, but that, honestly, would require a lot of scripting and still would probably be unable to account for custom-modded effects without also modifying those scripts. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see it done, and I'll pass out kudos to anyone who can do it. Those are little orange things, with blue speckles and a scent like peppermint, and ... well, nevermind. I'm munching on a kudo right now -- homemade of course.
