bben46
If you have the GOTY version with Shivering isles (SI) you must install both disks - Oblivion and SI in order to be fully patched. KOTN (Knights of the Nine) and the other DLC content don't matter as they are treated the same as a mod by the game. Wait until after installing and patching before installing them. If you have SI separate - NOT the GOTY Then install Oblivion, start the game and make a save. DO NOT PATCH YET! This sets up the Oblivion.ini file that identifies your hardware to the game - especially the Video and audio cards. Now install SI and again start the game and make a save. Now look in the lower left corner of the start up screen for your version number. If it is v1.2.0146 you do not need to patch. If it is anything else you do need to patch. As for patches. Only use the ones available free at the official site - http://www.elderscro...tes_patches.htm All patches are there in every language available. Using a patch you get from a torrent is an 'iffy' thing as it may be for a different language version or include other stuff with the patch that you don't want or even be the wrong patch entirely. Torrent file descriptions are not always right. The descriptions at the official Bethsoft site are right. The patches are free. If you have Shivering Isles installed ONLY use the Shivering Isles patch - DO NOT use the Oblivion only patch as that will cause the message you got when you try to install the Shivering Isles patch later. Bethsoft made it confusing by using the same version number on both the Oblivion only patch and the Shivering Isles patch. Be sure to use the proper language patch or you will get a mixture of languages in your game. Germanglish? or maybe Spanglish. If you have installed the wrong patch, you will have to completely remove the game and reinstall - see this for help with reinstalling. Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus....icle.php?id=240 It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice. bben46
As our search function is presently being blocked by the google virus warning (see the forum topic for details) I am unable to check on requirements for those two. And no there is no virus on the downloads it was in the ad server that feeds the advertisements to us and has been cleaned. There are quite a few sites that use the same ad servers and they are all showing that virus message. Google is taking their sweet time in removing it. Some mods have other requirements also. OBSE, Latest patch, another mod, a DLC being installed and others. One is the Win7 & Vista UAC which doesn't like mods. We recommend installing Oblivion outside of the UAC controlled program files folders unless you are using WinXP. I recomend installing to C:\Games\Oblivion. Or if you feel viruses are not a problem  you could disable the UAC.
