Pr0Dg
Hey does anyone know the name of the mod for Oblivion where you could go back to Morrowind by ship in Anvil ????
Ferryt
I wasn't even aware that could be done. There's no such mod hosted here on this site, anyway -- at least not with the word "morrowind" in its title. You could be referring to a project which Bethesda got yanked from this site awhile back due to EULA violations, but we're not allowed to even talk about it, as far as I know. I honestly don't know much about it but if you Google "Oblivion Morrowind" you'll find a word about halfway down the page that's neither "morrowind" or "oblivion", but both, and that will take you to a site where you can find out some information about it. Sorry, but I'm not going to type it because that might imply that I'm openly endorsing it, which I'm not.
BFG99
Ferryt--You mean Obliviwind? :)And no, I'm not endorsing that project either. The reason it got in trouble with the EULA was that it aimed to recreate Morrowind's world in Oblivion--which goes far beyond a "mod of Oblivion" and into the realm of "Morrowind copyright violation". Had the mod been set up such that it was dependent both upon a Morrowind and an Oblivion installation, the creators probably would have been fine. Ferryt
:P Actually, one of the requirements is that you have both games. This project uses an executable to transform the Morrowind content into Oblivion-capable content. The violation was simply that the Oblivion EULA rather plainly states that you may import no content from another game into Oblivion and you may not export any content from Oblivion into another game. I would guess that Morrowind and Fallout 3 have very similar, if not nearly identical EULAs. The Bethesda people even confirmed that it didn't matter if Bethesda owned both games. One factor in this may have been that Bethesda actually doesn't own the right to the Morrowind content and I suppose were only licensed to release it in Morrowind -- although to my knowledge the company which does was never brought into the loop in the fight over whether the project was legal or not. o.O Regardless, they haven't been able to actually kill the project, itself (only get it removed from this site), and that may well speak for itself. Whether or not their legal department's arguments would stand up in court is questionable. The courts are getting a bit tired of frivolous copyright and patent suits and in many cases are starting to turn a cold shoulder to situations such as this one where someone has clearly purchased content and is licensed to use it as they wish as long as they don't redistribute it, which the project in question never does. If you don't own both commercial games you can't play their game. It's not really an issue of copyright, since there are no copyright violations at all, here. It's a matter of a EULA that some people believe has an artificial and arbitrary clause.

schijnn
Hey does anyone know the name of the mod for Oblivion where you could go back to Morrowind by ship in Anvil ???? Well, there's this, which is still hosted here.
Ferryt
Thank you, schijnn. I wasn't aware of this mod, which appears to do what the other team did, but without having to import Morrowind content, and it seems to be the very mod that Pr0Dg was looking for. I think I'll be checking this one out, as well. I might point out that this is still very much a WIP and that there are a lot of things about this mod that are unfinished, although work is actively being done on it. Another warning, just based upon a few comments in the readme indicates that it could be frame rate killer for some players in some areas, since it uses the Open Cities concept.
