Cannot update to patch V1.2

It will work fine in the C:\Games\Oblivion directory on XP. It really doesn't care where it is installed - but it will place some registry entries pointing to the location when you do install. That's one of the reasons for using a registry cleaner after the uninstall - to clean out these entries that point to the wrong place.

And no I don't recommend moving it after it's installed as those registry entries will mess things up. Some get changed, and some don't which can come back and byte you.

I don't believe it! Did everything you said, cleared out about 40gig of other programs as a bonus before the defrag too. Took everything off comp and tried again.

Made it to 13%! Then stopped again with same message... Obviously I did something right as it's only ever gone to 8% before but I took off everything you mentioned and it still isn't enough...

Any more ideas???

Have you tried redownloading the patch - and did you get it from the official site?

Yep, every time I've tried to patch the game I've redownloaded and run it direct from the source which has always been the official site. Like I said I even tried the US patch before this last uninstall just in case I had the wrong version sent to me all those years ago. None of them have ever been any good though. The only difference now is that I get up to 13% or something instead of just the 8 I used to be getting! So it's a step in the right direction but there's still something that got left behind even after the full uninstall and everything...

Still no luck but things went differently with that patch than the most recent one! It got to 9% and gave the same message but after I clicked it away it carried on updating. It showed the message again at 13% then after the box was clicked away it finished the whole update. But it didn't actually update anything...

Interesting thing is I just checked my files to see if it had changed the version and while the launcher is still 1.0.0.1 the actual Oblivion.exe is now updated to the most recent 1.2#### version. I forget the numbers but I checked and it IS the recent one.

So my guess is that after the uninstall the update for some reason did half the job then stopped. This would suggest that subsequent attempts to update the game will all get the same message as previously because the Oblivion.exe file is the right name but the wrong version to be updated. Therefore it would prompt the message that started this whole problem off! But the versions when I started were those that I posted above so I don't understand what caused the update to alter my .exe file but not the launcher. I tried OBSE on the offchance it may work but same message so deleted the new files again.

Still stumped... If no other ideas how do I contact Bethesda? Is there a link off the official elder scrolls site?
