Tilda key

From what I gather I am supposed to be able to acess the pipboy using the tilda ~ key to enter in a cheat code... on my PC it doesnt work. pressing the ~ key doesnt do any thing. why?

I know using cheat codes is wrong blah blah blah its not for me its for my nephew. any help on this would be great!

Disable IR to allow Console

Disabling IR doesn't always work. It didn't for me. The article being linked will, in turn, link you to a mod (Ring of Console) that you can use if disabling your IR device doesn't work. This mod places an equippable ring in your inventory and you have to equip and unequip it to enable/disable your tilde key. There's a better solution called Change Console Key. It's an OBSE extension, rather than an Oblivion mod (so you'll have to have OBSE installed), that remaps the tilde key to the F12 key. This should work flawlessly on any PC, whether it has problems with the IR device or not.
