epsilon346
I've never used the CS before today, and figured I might give it a go to pass some time... I'm trying to make all the cities in the same world sector as the countryside, with no sector transitions. Basically like Morrowind. My original theory to manage this seems to have held so far: simply copy the interior world and slot it into the walls seen in the exterior world, adjusting the axes a bit to make it fit. I've hit a snag though: once the city walls are aligned, there's the small problem of the 'wall' that the original door transition used to sit practically ontop of. This wall is preventing access, as walls often do. My question is (noob moment) is there are way to modify an existing object, in this case the section of wall, and delete a portion of it? Or is the placeable hardcased or something like that?
TheVampireDante
Question: Are you aware of the 'Open Cities' mods and are just wanting to make your own version, or did you not know of them? I'm just wondering because those were made for this purpose, bringing the city areas into the main worldspace (except for the Imperial City I believe, for obvious reasons). Triaxx2
Yeah, it's reasonably simple, just delete the old walls. They're objects like any other.
Cepherit
Yeah, it's reasonably simple, just delete the old walls. They're objects like any other. That's not true... The cities are in cells for themselves and not a part of the Tamriel-cell.
epsilon346
Question: Are you aware of the 'Open Cities' mods and are just wanting to make your own version, or did you not know of them? No, I can't say that I was aware of them. I'll take a look at them. Thanks. But why not the Imperial City? Couldn't it simply be the same procedure as all the other cities, just requiring more worlds to be placed? Yeah, it's reasonably simple, just delete the old walls. They're objects like any other. Okay, as an example, take the wall surrounding the door to the Arcane Uni. For about maybe twenty metres or so to the left and the right, it is the same placeable 'object'. All the door is is a sector transition/portal/whatever that's been placed in the slot in the wall, where the stairs lead up to it. If I delete the door, then there's still a wall behind it. Is there a way to edit an existing object and crop bits off of it?
epsilon346
http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/4418/icarcaneunisnag.jpg That's the door to the Arcane University. I've deleted the transition portal and now there's this thing blocking the way that's part of the wall surrounding it. Is there a way to crop that bit out of the rest of the wall? Edit: I just tried to use the Open Cities mod, and whenever I try to enable one of the .esp's associated with the mod, the game refuses to start. Probably imcompatible with one of my other plug-ins. Oh well.

Just use the TCL console command and go through the wall. You'll find there's not much there. As for why there's not an Open Cities mod for the IC, there's just to much to move into the Tamriel worldspace. As for the issue of your game refusing to start, I suggest you use BOSS (Better Oblivion Sorting Software) to optimize your load order. Also look into Wrye Bash. Both can greatly reduce (if not totally prevent) CDTs.
epsilon346
Fair enough; my cheap shortcut attempt has no grounding. Thanks for confirmation that I wouldn't get anywhere, saved me a lot of time mucking around. And I'll give those sorters a look, see if it helps. Thanks again.
