Help crashing on presets

Hey,

I recently finished the game and decided to have another go but with the mods. Once I downloaded the mobs and followed the instructions. I started the game and during cycling through the presets (in character creation screen) the game crashed.

I DL several mods and thins being the first time using mods on DA:O, I have no idea what the preferred number to put. Is there a limit if so what is it? Is there a solution?

My list of mods DL:

  •
  • JBtextures
  • Personal Annoyance Remover
  • Non-Circle Origin Mage Dialogue Fixes
  • CC Extra Tints and Tones
  • Dragon Age Redesigned Version 7-3
  • All in the Family - HF Cousland Preset
  • White Teeth
  • LOTC s Female Eyelashes
  • Advanced Party
  • Improved Atmosphere
  • Sword of darksouls
  • Innodils Pocket Plane Party Camp
  • Pineappletree s Vibrant Colors
  • Drain Blood
  • Lost to the Memories Rewards
  • Dog Gift Tweaks
  • Dialogue Tweaks
  • Total Stealing Skill
  • Skip the Fade
  • More Hairstyles
  • Lock Bash
  • The Glory of Griffon

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

You have several mods that have their own chargen.xml files. However, you can only have one chargen.xml in your override to make the CC work. Use something like this to get those down to just the one:

http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=971

This is causing the game to crash when you enter the CC. More Hairstyles, PT's Vibrant Colors, CC Extra T&T all for sure each come with their own chargen.xml, and they are conflicting. The file listed above will compile all of these into one chargen.xml and remove the others which will also remove the conflict.

The thing I'd look to first is the textures. F'irinstance: "DA Redesigned" REQUIRES "Dracomies True Textures", (which you don't mention) but you've also got other mods that change those same things listed here.

I'd remove "JB's" and "White Teeth", see if problem goes away.

Additional note, (since you indicate that this is your first go-'round with mods): How did you merge the entries for "Tints and Tones", "Eyelashes", "VibrantColors", and "More Hairstyles" in the chargenmorphcfg.xml? (I hope it wasn't manually...)

[ Ninja'd by Dan  Terra_Ex's utility really is the best for this! ]

Also: Use "Improved Atmosphere" with CAUTION. It's stable on its own, but makes significant changes to "the way things work" and can conflict with other mods. And, because it adds non-standard materials to the game, it can also leave you stuck (missing items/totally naked, weaponless characters) if you later remove it. Funny, but...

Indeed, I have to agree that most likely the game is crashing because of an incorrectly configured chargenmorph file. That usually happpens in the cc when it tries to find a file that it cant load. Either that, or the selected choice won't show up correctly in the CC.

As for your other questions.

You can run as many mods as your machine can handle. So it pretty much depends on what the mods are, and how much they stress your system resources. Keep in mind tho too, that Dragon Age is a VERY system hungry game, with a flawed memory release system. It will continue to suck down more and more of your RAM constantly.

To the point that it will start to crash.

Thandal posted information that MIGHT be of help to you on that. http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/236616-editing-save-files/page__st__10 however it depends on how much memory your system has, and which operating system your machine is running.

There really isnt a way to control which order your mods run in. Except for changing your file structures. In your override and addins folders (the folders that DA installs mods and dlc's to) the game loads them in reverse alphabetical order. In other words, from bottom to top. So aside from changing the names of folders from say... A Wolfmod folder to ZWolfmod folder, there isnt much that you can do to change the way the game loads the mods as far as order.

Another piece of advice is to install your mods one at a time. Test each one for issues in game, before installing the next. Some mods conflict, and its better to see it one at a time, instead of trying to track down 3-5 different ones to see what caused the problem.

And also create a seperate "test" savegame. Test those mods in THAT save, (without updating the save) so that in case there IS a problem, its not going to cause any issues on your regular saves.

And finally.... since patch 1.03 and patch 1.04 mods that add items to the players inventory, or to NPCs dont load correctly. You will save yourself a LOT of trouble and headache if you DEACTIVATE those kinds of mods BEFORE you start a new character. Play that character til you can save the game. Save it, then REactivate those mods, and they should load correctly.

Hope this helps :)

And welcome aboard to the Nexus! :)
