NPC behavior during battles

I'm trying to make a Buu NPC that can do silly things during battles. My goal is to have him laugh, giggle, point, dance, pound his chest like an ape, and even sleep-stand all DURING battle.

 

I've been pondering all day at work how I could go about doing some of these things. One of my thoughts was to try forcing animations during combat. I know that some animations can force the player to not be able to move or fight while the animation is running. But does this work on NPC's, or can they just break the animation at any time?

 

Another thought was to force a stopcombat command on Buu then execute the code for his silly stuff. But if the animations can be broken by NPCs that will cause Buu to go right back into battle as his opponent is still in combat mode.

 

Any suggestions or work-arounds?
