Agnonthewolf
Hello again community! I had another fun idea i wanted to share you with you today! How often haven't you had your legs and arms crippled? I know i have! Doesn't that make you wonder? How many other in the wasteland have been as unlucky as i or worse? Well suuure a few people have busted some kneecaps and can't walk, but is that all? is it really impossible some scavengers survived being maimed? Therefor i suggest a mod idea! "Disabled Wastelanders"! Now the courier will occasionally be reminded how ruthless and unforgiving the wasteland can be! You might meet a local in Novac with only one arm! Or an old cripple with a crutches or in a wheelchair possibly missing a leg! Even an old man with a limp supporting his weight on a cane. Not to mention injured patients missing limbs moaning in pain at different medical locations! Some might say that Darwin's "survival of the fittest" rule makes handicapped wastelanders a minority. But i think that even in an unforgiving setting as fallout, a cripple still stands a chance for survival. Now... as stated above i suggest a couple of different disabilities and means to mend them. And i am aware a wheelchair and an animation for crutches isn't part of fallout as of right now. But i have seen what you talented modders can do. And have seen the changes things like this does to the game. And i hope someone will take up the mantle and make a great mod! I do not suspect all of said features at once. Not even all of the features at all! But is someone was willing to add just a few. that would be great!PS: I suggest that some script disabling two handed weapon usage for people lacking an arm and running for people without legs be disabled  And if a wheelchair, crutch or cane was implemented. Tru to increase the time it takes to turn. Nothing worse than seeing an old man in a wheelchair do a 180 in a flash  http://i61.tinypic.com/wgryc7.jpg Edited January 2, 2015 by Agnonthewolf
KangarooSwag
That could work. Obsidian cut some wounded NCR soldiers from the ground between Forlorn Hope and Nelson that only had half a leg or arm. And wheelchairs are in the game, there just not animated to move anywhere. If someone wanted to spend some time with this I think it could happen.
Agnonthewolf
Very well observed friend! Thanks for taking the time to comments :P Good to know the game already somewhat support my idea xD
devinpatterson
That cart idea might even go well for another mod idea i threw out on the forums earlier! http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/2426819-disabled-wastelanders/ Hmmmm I don't know, there is a fundamental difference between your concept(s) and what I was doing. The similarity is only surface deep. With the brahmin cart/wagon (reposted below for those that didn't see the caravan thread); https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8O4VAhw58w&list=UUhKTr5RPpqZOdIc4zt_StGw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBqkBXnMBJY&list=UUhKTr5RPpqZOdIc4zt_StGw the animation on the actor (in this case a brahmin) is exactly what you want, but with the disabled/crippled/handicapped actor in device like a wheelchair or wagon we can't use that animation and we'll have to go in a different direction. None of these suggestions are going to be ideal, some may not even be feasible much less practical; 1. maybe it's possible to put a furniture marker on the wagon, in which case we're finished and it's pretty much a best case scenario......but I doubt it. I imagine they can only go on immobile statics. 2. By script. There are a few variations of the same basic idea (like Illyisms Rideable Creatures), which is using a moveto command every frame to provide movement via script instead of the game engine. They are all fairly cpu intensive, and can be problematic (fading in and out for a few frames, collision problems etc), but the concept would be the similar for a wheelchair as it would be for a mount, but a wheelchair doesn't have any animations of it's own, so the wheels aren't going to spin unless the nif already has something baked in. We may have to put an invisible skeleton somewhere to provide the movement and then have the rest (wheelchair & peep) tacked on, otherwise the whole setup will only go where it's scripted to go....it would have no freedom of movement beyond what was pre-programmed. I don't think this has been done before, since something like that would more properly be done via animations and a special niNode used for mounts, so there could be a whole host of other problems I'm not aware of. 3. The worse case scenario. Using the actor (human) for movement. Due to the animations s/he will bob up and down as per normal walking. Even if I remove the legs, everything else acts per normal walking animation (head, torso, arms). But the wheel chair could be below/around him/her. However that walking animation/bobbing is probably going to really break immersion. There may be other ways I'm not aware of, as well. I think you could probably have a lot of scenarios where it's feasible cripples could survive and possibly even thrive. Remember Masterblaster? The little guy didn't get to the top on his brawn. A boss type, a member of a formidable caravan, a NCR citizen in a civilized local, or even just a crippled wastelander with a capable robot could eeek out a living. Lots of possibilities, but I think a lone merchant would have perished long ago if they'r handicapped in the unforgiving Mojave without help. Some of this is pretty easy. A missing leg, or a peg leg is trivial. But the animations don't change, so a missing leg will seem to be supported on an invisible limb. The effect might be reduced (or made even more glaringly obvious) with the crippled animation. So best bet between those two are a peg/artificial leg. Easy to whip up a jury rigged, wasteland style prosthetic. For the crutches, it's pretty much the same. No problem rigging them to a actor, but the animation won't change (so it's not going to move like someone on crutches). Cane is the same story as the crutch, except it will probably look even more flagrantly obvious, since it's going to flop around with the hand (where as the crutches I would rig to the torso so they won't be waving all around). For sitting (immobile) in a wheelchair, it's no problem to put a furniture marking on. For a moving one, I'd refer you to the first part of this post. Some might say that Darwin's "survival of the fittest" rule makes handicapped wastelanders a minority. But i think that even in an unforgiving setting as fallout, a cripple still stands a chance for survival. Of course if you can find an animator willing to do the work, everything I'v said is superfluous, as s/he will be able to do it the right way. But I think the chance of that happening is practically zero
