Crash to desktop, help needed.

I have frequent CTD ever since installing windows 7 a week ago, the crashes only occur when i exit a building,

I have q9550 (cpu), hd 5870 (graphics card), corsair xms2 8gb (ram).

 

mods list:

QTP3

Better trees and flora

Apachii goddess store

Apachii heroes store

DM wardrobe (with all BBB files)

Natural environments

Quest award leveler

Key chain

Spell delete and remove

CM partners

A lot of h-cup and dmra conversions (all with BBB)

Most of speedbusters stuff

And all plug-ins including Shivering isles, all unofficial patches are installed, including the unofficial mods patch.

I think its to do with my ini file but iam not sure, any help would be most appreciated.

First suggestion: Rename the Oblivion.ini file to OldOblivion.ini and let the game generate a new one - It will do this automatically when you start the game and it cannot find one. As the ini contains information about your hardware there may be something that it needs to change for Win7

 

When I changed from Winxp x86 to Win7 x64 I completely reinstalled the game. I first backed up my save games and data folders. After reinstalling, testing and making sure everything worked in vanilla, I reinstalled Shivering Isles and patched - then more testing. Then OBMM, Then installed all DLCs - and more testing - Then reinstalled OBSE. Only after everything was working with these I then made a back up of the data folder and the saves folder and put my old WinXP data folder and saves folder back ( I did not use the old Oblivion.ini) - It worked. Then I went to the tweak guides site and tweaked Win7 first, then my video and finally Oblivion. The Oblivion tweaks involved a lot of changes to the ini file.

Ok thanks for the reply heres my load order, note i also have bomret's texture pack for SI and quite a few other texture re placers for Oblivion. as for a new ini i have tryed that already.

Problem still not solved, Ive tried re-installing oblivion and all mods, deleted ini's, saves, blend setting and started a new game (you guessed it i had months of play), Ive also tried the better sorting thingy that changes your load order, Ive also tried weOCPS (anti crashing thingy) nothing seems to work, Ive deleted some mods that i don't really need or want to try and keep the numbers down, but still every other time i exit a building the game just disappears strate back to desk top, iam ripping my hair out over this as iam now thinking of giving up playing oblivion for good now due to this,

is there a ini setting for loading or transit in and out of a building ?

could it be a mod that doesn't have an esp or esm, like a replacer ?

I suggest doing a complete uninstall of Oblivion. You may have registry strings left behind and other files that can be ghosted causing problems. Windows 7 UAC loves to ghost stuff apparently. Uninstall Oblivion and delete all folders related to Oblivion. You can keep your saves, just back them up somewhere. Then run a registry cleaner to clear the registry entries. CCleaner will do the job, it's free. After you are sure you have removed all remnants of Oblivion then reinstall Oblivion. This time install it to a directory outside of Program Files. Create a directory such as C:\Games\Oblivion or something similar and install Oblivion there. Again do not install inside the Program Files directory.

 

After you have reinstalled Oblivion do not add any mods! None, zero, zilch. Update with the most recent patches unless you have GOTY edition. Now defragment your drive you just installed Oblivion on. After complete restart your computer and launch Oblivion. It should now work. Play around for a while trying different things inside the game. Fast travel, sleep, wait, combat, basically try to do as many different things as possible especially situations like changing from interior to exterior cells. If everything is running fine at this point move to step 2. If you are still crashing move to step 1.

 

1. If you are still crashing the only thing I can suggest is a full wipe of your drive. Format it and start from scratch. I know that sounds drastic but it's about all you have left at this point.

2. If you have made it this far you can now start adding utilities to your game such as OBSE and Mod managers. (I suggest Wrye Bash, but OBMM works fine too. It just doesn't have near the functionality of Wrye Bash). It's fairly safe to add a Mod manager and OBSE at the same time. Then test your game for a while. It should still be stable since you really haven't adding anything yet, just utilities.

3. If you made it this far without crashing you can now start adding mods, slowly. Adding only one at a time. Testing for at least a few hours after each mod, again doing multiple tasks in game. I suggest adding the Unofficial Patches and Supplements first. They are considered essential at this point in Oblivion's span.

4. Continue slowly adding mods and updating your Load Order with BOSS (then Rebuilding Bashed Patch if you use Wrye Bash) and testing after each and every mod.

5. Repeat step 4 as needed until you have all the mods you want and your game is stable.

 

If at anytime you crash during the process remove the mod you just added and load up your previous stable save. This way you can usually find which mod or mods are causing conflicts or crashes. Both mod managers have means of conflict detection, again Wrye Bash is superior.

Thanks for your help it worked. I uninstalled everything, backed up only my saves and deleted what was left, as for ccleaner i already have that but i knew its reg scanner is very basic so i tried this http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/?ref=google_rm&gclid=CMq3-KvWyKQCFQHS4wodSG0UTw and its very good :thumbsup: i also installed oblivion outside program files (x86) in its own folder, so the remedy could have been one or the other or a combination of both but anyhow it worked, now i can play my favourite game again. :thumbsup:
