Confessore
Here is my situation: I have just received a copy of Oblivion for PC (new to computer gaming; not to the game), and of course, I wanted to add mods. I had a lot of trouble getting mods running at first, but after a lot of tutorials I got the hang of it. But, it's only today that I started installing a lot of them, one after the other. Now, I'm not sure why, but after trying to start the game multiple times, even through OBSE, it won't work. A black window appears, followed by seemingly another one, it fades in and out a few times, then gives up. I suspect it may have something to do with the load order, the amount of mods, the incompatibility between them or the fact that OBSE didn't seem to have installed properly (it said it did but a race mod requiring it wouldn't work because said file needed Oblivion script extender). In any case, I hope it won't be too difficult to correct this unfortunate problem, as I am quite new to any kind of modification. If my load order is required to find a solution, here it is:Alivewaters - Koi add on.espAlivewaters - Slaughterfish add on.espAlivewaters.espAlluring Potion Bottles.espAlluring Wine Bottles.esp (unactivated; creates huge yellow boxes where wine and alcohol should be)Auto Book Placer.espAWS - Main.espAWS - Water.espBig Crab Mod.espBook Jackets Oblivion.espBooks of Oblivion.espBow of Quel'Thalas.espCharGenAmulet.espDruid.espEyeStyle2.espFantasy Mod.espHentai Mania.esphilarity_121.espHoradric Cube.esmHoradric Cube.espHoradric Cube.gem.lvlist.ovveride.espHoradric Cube.gem.ovveride.espHoradric Cube.gem.swap.espHoradric Cube.SI.esp (unactivated; I don't have Shivering Isles)Kunai.espLevelerCheat.espLoadingScreens.espLocation Names with Enemy Tags.espMidasSpells.espNew FrostMourne Sword by JojjoV1_0.espOblivion Achievements CORE version.esmOblivion Achievements CORE.espOblivion Collectible Cards.espOblivion.esmOmegas Crazy Amulets.espPCSoundCernd.espPTArtifacts.espQuest Award Leveler.espRooftop Rewards.espShadowCrest_Vineyard.espSK_Berserk_V0.6.espThe Sword of Truth.espThieves Arsenal.espToaster Says Share Faction Recruitment.espToaster Says Share v3.esmTSS Custom Companion Template.espwd purse of wonders.espWolven Anthros.esp (unactivated; said file that apparently won't work because OBSE isn't installed)za_bankmod.esp_Ren_Beautypack_full.esp If more information is required to solve my problem, I will do what I can to provide it. If more information is required to solve my problem, I will do what I can to provide it. That list is of the mods that you load but it is in alphabetical order, not the order that they load in - at least I hope so since Oblivion.esm should be the first thing loaded, not the twentysomethingth. I would recommend that you acquire and use BOSS (Better Oblivion Sorting Software) to do an initial rearrangement of your load order. Then read the report it provides for things it tells you might need to be fixed and fix them. (Posting that report here can help others to help you as it will be closer to your real load order than an alphabetical list.)

(Posting that report here can help others to help you as it will be closer to your real load order than an alphabetical list.)I downloaded BOSS, followed the instructions carefully, yet it didn't seem to work. I ran the exe file at first apparently, so I then ran the bat file, which just resulted in a black window rapidly (and I mean VERY quickly) searching through names. I suppose it was the mods, but I'd have expected a longer process. But, I didn't get any report of any kind. I went and read more carefully the read me for BOSS, and saw something about "unknown files" I didn't quite understand. I then proceeded to use OBMM, and saw that the grand majority of my mods were classed as unknown. I don't know why it appeared as such, neither why it still didn't work, or if it changes anything. Oh, and yes, that list I had posted was indeed the load order, not just the alphabetical one. Edited October 3, 2010 by Confessore

bben46
This could be the problem Thieves Arsenal.esp . Requires: OBSE. If you do not have OBSE (Oblivion Script Extender) Or are not starting the game using the OBSE launcher and NOT the Oblivion launcher it can crash on start when you have a mod that requires it. OBSE is not a mod and does not install like a mod - so read the directions first.http://obse.silverlock.org/ I also recommend OBMM (Oblivion Mod Manager) for making the manual changes to your load list. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097 Again, not a mod but a utility program that doesn't install like a mod. I went on tutorial videos, forums, the official website and about everywhere else, testing it every now and then, but without success. So I just deactivated every mod in OBMM, and progressively put them back on, checking with the software if it conflicts or not. If it does, I just uncheck the file and it goes into Oblivion... Literally. I assume I am doomed to an existence that isn't perfectly balanced, though it barely surprises me.
