DarkeWolf
Ok, sorry for having sounded short. Didnt mean to be. I edited out something that I shouldnt have said about bioware, so thats my fault there. Keep in mind that this happened before I even joined the forums here, so I Dont know exact details. But a while back, there was an issue with some folks that uploaded content from several other games, all in one package. For distribution as their own work. Some of the manufacturers got wind of it, and got involved in making sure that the distribution was stopped. Its because of those guys, that Dark0ne really tightened down the reigns, that the rule stands that no ports are to be uploaded without expressed permission. Dark0ne just doenst want that kind of trouble on his site again. And yeah, I know that you werent trying to compare us to bioware. Like I said, I posted something there that I shouldnt have, and removed it. No worries, no offense was taken ;) What I kinda meant was that, if Bioware or EA decides to change their mind about it, Robin doesnt want "Cease and Desist" letters from lawyers showing up in his mailbox ;) Edited October 13, 2010 by DarkeWolf
XTR3M368
I can understand that completely. I wouldn't want those kinds of attorney contacts either. I mistook "impartial and formal" statement of policy as being taken to task. I still think the public benefits from seeing these questions and answers in this thread.
DarkeWolf
Like I said before, I DO apologize that it came off like that. I should have done a better job of editing my post. And again, it was absolutely nothing personal there amigo. Its ALL good :) And yes, I agree. Even tho the rules on this are pretty specific... awareness about this kind of thing is DEFINITELY a good thing. I mean, as a gaming community, we gotta watch out for each other as well as just talk about gaming shyt. ;)
DarkeWolf
Something else that I wanted to go ahead and throw in on the subject, for those that are reading this. And please bare with me, I really have to watch what I say, because as staff, I'm a representative of the site, and could possibly get the site in trouble, if I step wrong, and a manufacturer reads my comment. I just want everybody to realize that it's not just Dark0ne that is involved in this. Some of the manufacturers (that I am not going to name) are becoming more and more insistent about control of their software, and anti-piracy issues. Legally speaking...pulling content- graphics, music, artwork, etc WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION is theft. Legally speaking. Some of these companies are starting to get more aggressive about how they handle these issues. And that translates downward. Its like what I was saying about Dark0ne not wanting those letters in his mailbox. If Company X wanted to throw a fit over say.... a sword from Game A being distributed on here, they could sue. And as part of that suit they could stipulate that the site be shut down. If a judge rules in their favor, this would become an illegal site, and Robin could serve jail time if he kept it running. And the gaming industry is for a large part.... monkey see, monkey do. What one company starts implementing, others tend to do as well. So it really isn't a matter of us trying to control what mods are available to the players. Its not about the site trying to be buttheads about what you can and can't play with. It's about avoiding any issues that could cause a loss of the site, and the content and assets that we can allow on here, by not taking risks that would put those assets in jeopardy. So basically we (staff and site) have to keep a couple of steps ahead of anything that might cause trouble in the legal arena.Because IN that arena, some of these companies are getting more drastic about the issues, and we have to do what we can, to keep their legal vampires off our necks.
