To kill or not to kill?

Moriarty is a jerk and he raised the price to find my father from 100 caps to 300 caps, so I billy clubbed him.

Then nova and the ghoul guy disappear.

What is the downside to killing moriarty, if any?

Also, I wanted to kill the overseer, but I didn't Is there a consequence to killing him?

The only downside to killing Moriarty is that the whole of Megaton will want to kill you. So quickly kill him, flee and come back after about 3 days and Megaton will be fine.

Eventually the sign above the Saloon will change to Gob's Saloon and all is fine and dandy

Now about Vault 101, there are no consequences really apart from Amata is upset with you.

You can still go back to Trouble on the homefront and do the quest the same as you would if you didn't kill the overseer.

The only difference is that another overseer will step up to take his place.

So... Kill away!

I for one totally don't kill Moriarty every time he starts insulting me when I walk by him. I'm just minding my own business, helping clean up Megaton by moving some of the old barrels or tires around. Its not my fault that Moriarty was accidentally repeatedly bludgeoned to death with with one of the steel barrels I was moving around.

It came as quite a surprise, I even tried performing some life saving surgery on his corpse with my trusty combat knife but even four amputations and an attempted head transplant I was tragically unable to save him.

But, everyone else was pretty understanding and Gob seems happy about it.

(Basically, you can easily kill him when he's outside by ramming a heavy object into him repeatedly. He doesn't even react until his health hits zero.)

This sounds insanely fun! Gotta go try that right now. Thanks for the idea. Go ahead and kill him, another fun way is to disable a railing of the bridge with console commands when he's walking and watch him fall to his demise. just make sure you fix the bridge... somehow...
