akiray
I wanna get started into modding, specifically outfits. I wanna create some RE outfits for male characters, but can you guys point me as to which tools I'll be needing(besides Geck) to get started into creating? Like some sort of 3d modeling software? robertward203
i was in this position about a month ago. I fell flat on my face Required programs:3D modeling software (3ds max, blender, maya)Fallout mod managerHeadUS UVlayout (optional)GIMP/photoshop You need to make a mesh (model) using a modeling software like blender, 3ds max or maya. I used 3ds max because i couldn't make any sense out of blender. You'll need the required plugins to import and export NIF files for your chosen program. http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/NifTools go to "the tools" and at the bottom clikck your chosen program. After you make your mesh, you have to rig it which is bloody complicated and i can't do it. You'll need to export the skeleton.nif from the falloutmain.bsa with fallout mod manager and then import it into your modeling program and just use a tutorial to rig, sorry i can't help you with this bit. After you have a rigged model, you have to uv map it. Most modeling programs can do this, but i tried to use headus uvlayout and again, i can't help because a iwasn;t good enough with programs to make a mod. Once you have a uv mapped version you need to open it up in photoshop or GIMP and you'll need plugins, just google them or look for tutorials for terminology and whatnot. A Then you load up GECK, load an armour and click the model section then select your mesh. I;m not too sure on this part because i only made it up to actually finishing the basic mesh, then i gave up and i'm now trying to find someone to pay to finish it. UV mapping is just "unwrapping" a 3d model so that you have a 2D version of the model, like a net of a cube.Rigging is when you bind the armour to the skeleton. Basically, when you press w in the game, you move the skeleton and the legs of the armour are rigged to the skeleton's legs, so that moves forward as well. Sorry i wasn't that helpful in some areas, but there are loads of cool people who spend time to make tutorials to help others. Just google them, or searh on fallout3nexus. Ghogiel is a really helpful person as well and he knows what he's doing.
