Lock up

This happens in battle. Usually when my PC uses the War Cry or Holy Smite talents. Also usually when I have forgotten to save for 30 mins or so. I run DA:O 1.04 version, the latest update if I am wrong on the version number. I run a Dell XPS 420. Intel Quad @ 2.4 gig, 3.5 Gig RAM with a ATI Radion HD 2600 XT. Onboard sound. Any suggestions? Has anybody else seen this?

I have them all - Awakenings, Golems of ... Witch Hunt, Liliana's Song, including several mods and add-ins from the ones available on this site. Believe it to be irrelevant, It was doing the same prior ro upgrade to 1.04 and all the additional mods. May be a glitch the tech heads at Bioware may need to figure out. Has to be something in graphics, I would think. Just need to remember to save, save, save. Still a pain. Any idea on the next Bioware upgrade patch?

If you installed awakening after you patched to 1.04 you need to apply the 1.04 patch again. You should also disable Golems of, Leliana's Song and Witch Hunt unless you are playing them as they sometimes cause problems. If none of that is of use a list of the user created mods you are using will be required to troubleshoot further.

... Any idea on the next Bioware upgrade patch?

I can relay from a credible source that (at least as of a month ago) there was NO official work being done on another DA:O patch. (The WH v1.1 effort was a special case due to impact on DA2.)

What we got... is what we got.

 

When the "Ulitimate Edition" comes out I'd love to see a new patch to at least address the broken plot flags and dialogue branches, never mind the problems with properties and characteristics like the faulty (unimplemented) "Weakens Nearby Darkspawn", or "Reduces Hostility" attributes, but I'm not holding my breath.

 

And as for technical (game engine) fixes like you're asking about? Don't think that's ever going to happen now. :sad:

Thanks for the input. This has happened since I first installed the game over a year ago. Prior to Awakenings, Liliana's Song, Golums and any user created mod I've added. I guess I'll just have to live with it and remember to save progress. Maybe Bioware will come up with a 1.05 patch that will resolve the issue some day.

What are your system specs? If you can add RAM, I'd do it!

 

DA is a resource hog, so "more" really is "better". I have 8GB of RAM and 1GB of VRAM, have installed the "Large Memory Area Flag" fix, (which really helped with CtDs) and I still get lag and/or lock-up with certain cutscenes or other specific situations.

 

('course the 2.7GB of mods in my "override" folder probably doesn't help much! :laugh: )

Holy Smite and cleanse Templar talents CTD my DA game. I don't know why. I have a Phenom II Black quad core @ 3.4Ghz per core and 4GB of DDR3 RAM so I know I have enough machine. The "get's worse if you have played continuously for a while" issue is a known memory leak problem that DA has. I usually will save and exit out and go have a smoke or something then come back and run the game again. That has cut down on my freezing and CTD issues a lot.
