Yesnah
My computer will boot when I have my graphics card in, but will turn off in about 25 seconds. When I take out the graphics card the computer boots, stays on, but I cannot see anything because I do not have a graphics card in. Computer Specs: Motherboard: AsRock P43DEProcessor : Intel Core 2 Duo 7500E 2.7 ghzRam: 2 x 1gb CrucialGPU: nVidia GeForce 6200 ^-------Now it is a nVidia GeForce 8600 GT I tried to switch out my card with another one and it didn't make a difference. So i figured it out. The graphics cards I was using were PCIe x8. I had a x16 slot and it was not accepting them. I put in a x16 card and the computer booted up just fine. Thank you everyone for the input. Edited October 19, 2010 by Yesnah

Gishank
More info on the exact issue is needed as from the information you have given it could be a number of issues. For example, has this issue just recently started occuring or have you purchased the PC 'new'?
bben46
A list of the components might help. Including the power supply. Also, has it ever worked or is this a new card? And what else has changed if it did work? When you replaced the card was it the same type card? same manufacturer or a different card or maker? Generic reasons for a Graphics card to shut you downBad graphics card - just because it's new doesn't guarantee it is not defective.Bad Graphics card socket on motherboard (defective motherboard)Card incompatible with motherboard (check your Motherboard specs)Fan not working on graphics card Dust clogging the fan and air channels on graphic card causing fan to not spinGPU (or any other chip) on card not seated in socketAuxiliary power to Graphics card not plugged in - they put those connectors there for a reasonNo or low voltage on auxiliary connectionGraphics card not compatible with systemNot enough power available to run card (Computer power supply too weak)
Yesnah
I have a 500w power supply. I bought all the components and put the computer together. I turn on the computer without the gpu in. It turns on, beeps, and stays on. I turn on the computer with my card in. It turns on, no beeps, stays on for 20 seconds, turns off, then turns back on again. The gpu is from an older computer that stopped working for me. I have tried the geforce 6200 and a radeon 9250. They both give me the same result when in the pci express 2.0 socket. I have yet to install windows 7 or anything on the computer because I cannot get it to boot to the BIOS yet.
CommanderCrazy
How did the old computer die? Was it spontaneous or gradual, because if it was spontaneous then it could have done damage to the card.
Yesnah
You might be on to something. It was spontaneous. The old computer just started to freeze. We would boot up the computer and be on for a while. It would then just freeze. Eventually it got to the point where it wouldnt even boot to BIOS. It would turn on and the screen would stay black. It never had any problems before that. This is the old computer that failed, not the one i just bought.
Erik005
The powersupply is more important than most people think. What brand is your powersupply? Have you connected all the cables correctly?
Yesnah
power supply is rosewill. i understand that it's not the greatest, but it will do i think. it came as a bundle with the case. i believe that i have everything plugged in.
bben46
Has this computer ever worked? If not, then I would suspect the motherboard is bad.
