Eltath
So, After hours of re-installing and installing FCOM, it still CRASHES (AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!) :wallbash: :verymad: Well, I did as you all said. Completely clean install (except for defrag (it would have taken about 10 hours otherwise!)) and installed all the mods separately. I tested OOO but I didn't test Frans, Warcry or Marts. Then installed FCOM completely, built a bashed patch, ran the launcher through OBSE, and it crashes to CTD as soon as I open the game. So what do you guys think the problem be? Or should I send all my information toward Dev_akm?
Smooth613
You answered your own question. "I tested OOO but I didn't test Frans, Warcry or Marts. Then installed FCOM completely, built a bashed patch, ran the launcher through OBSE, and it crashes to CTD as soon as I open the game." It's pretty obvious what the problem is, it's FCOM. You're either missing something, downloading the wrong version of a single file, bad Bashed Patch, or a LO problem within FCOM. A crash immediately upon startup usually means you're missing a Master Dependency. (Check UESP FAQ, I provide a link later) There are so many files, updates, and patches for FCOM and compatibility it could be very easy to get a wrong version. Vanilla Oblivion works then OOO works so you know everything is good at that point. As soon as you add FCOM it crashes the game, well then it's obviously some component of FCOM. All you can do is sift through every file and make sure they are updated and you're not using a patch you shouldn't be. And make sure you are using the patches you should be. If you're using a patch that doesn't have a master it'll crash your game. Read more FCOM information, there is tons of it out there. Tomlongs site, dev_akm's site, UESP wiki, 50 Steps to stable FCOM @ BethSoft. Tons of information out there, sifting through it to find where you went wrong is the trick. I'm going to suggest starting with these two links, 50 Steps to stable FCOM and the Guide on TESPOSitive, Tomlongs site. After that your just gonna have to dig around. I can offer an approach that will help narrow down the source of the problem. Test each major component of FCOM individually. Then try OOO + MMM, then Frans + MMM, etc... If each major component works as a standalone then you know the problem is with the Convergence aspect of the install, or otherwise known as the glue, compatibility. You mentioned you skipped this earlier, essentially only testing 1/4 of the major components. If you've done this already, well do it again, and again. It's all you can do. FCOM is the most involved mod install out there and problems are just waiting to happen. One single file slightly out of place or out of date and boom there it goes, down the drain. If you're not willing, understandably so after a certain point, to keep troubleshooting and reinstalling then you'll just have to give up on FCOM and try something different. OOO + MMM or Frans + MMM, or T.I.E, or dare I even say Vanilla or whatever else is out there, tons of options. I know it's frustrating but there's really nothing more that can be done without being in front of your PC and analyzing every single aspect of your install. I wish you luck in whatever you choose. bben46
Would you rather spend the ten hours on a defrag? or spend ten more hours watching it crash - and then do the defrag? If you have never defragged your hard drive probably needs it anyway. If you have Win7 it's probably defragged already. I recommend the Tomlong site (see Smooth613's post above) as it has the most up to date information.
Eltath
Well this is my current report, I went to start with a clean install yet again :verymad: . This is what I did: 1. I uninstalled Oblivion through setup.exe (located on the disk). 2. I uninstalled all of my DLC and utilites through Add or Remove Programs. 3. Next, I Deleted my Oblivion folder (9.71gb!!!), and my saves folder. 4. Then I rebooted my computer to delete tempory files. 5. I re-installed Oblivion to: My documents/Oblivion (because I'm a Windows 7 user) 6. After installing Oblivion, I Installed The Shivering Isles (so I could use the latest official Patch) 7. I installed the latest official Oblivion patch, the I Rebooted my computer. 8. After rebooting, I installed my Utilites (OBMM, Wrye Bash, BOSS and TES Construction Set) 9. Then I installed Graphic Patches (i.e: Qarls, Bomret's etc....) 10. Then I ran Archive Invadilation, to make sure the packs would work. 13. I installed the Oblivion RAM booster Patch to make the game run more smoothly. 12. Then I did my first test of the game, works perfectly, no problems here..... 13. Then I installed the Unofficial Oblivion Patch. 14. After that I installed OOO. 15. After OOO was installed, I used BOSS to sort my load order. 16. Then I tested it. It works perfectly, Right whats next? 17. I made a FCOM_MMM.bsa and copied the esm and esp from MMM 37b3 release. 18. It works perfectly. 19. Warcry is up next...... 20. Installed and works fine 21. Frans is next... 22. Installed Works fine 23. Made Ufcom Omod, 24. Installed 25. Bashed Patch: I selected: Merge Patches, Import Cells, Import Graphics, Import Scripts..... Eltath
Good news everyone.... IT WORKS!!! :woot: :woot: All I had to do was check my bashed patch, because I didn't install most of the DLC (Frostcrag and VileLair) I accidently selected Harvest Flora Frostcrag in my patch, and that screwed everything up....But now it works now. Should I risk installing DLC and any other mods (like All Natural, Better Cities, Unique Landscapes, Oblivion XP levelling, Streamline, etc)? Thanks for all your patience. Sorry i got a bit angry at times, but it paid off...... Thanks sooo much
Smooth613
I'm glad you got it working. An oversight was the problem, it happens to everyone. I mentioned properly building your Bashed Patch in my first two responses though, one was the very first reply. If you are trying (1)FCOM by itself and you are still crashing you've narrowed down your problem to your FCOM installation, which includes a (im)properly configured Bashed Patch. I'm not pointing this out to be an ass or as a haha I told ya so, so please don't take it the wrong way. I'm just reinforcing the fact that you have to pay attention to every detail, regardless of how minor you may think it is. It would have saved your hours and days of frustration and unneeded troubleshooting. On to your next question, installing additional mods. Yes it's perfectly fine to add mods on top of FCOM, it's common practice. Just follow the Golden Rule; Install ONE mod at a time and thoroughly test to ensure proper installation of said mod. And as you've learned the hard way, make sure you rebuild your patch after adding mods, and rebuild it according to the mods instructions and per BOSS suggestions. BOSS is right 9 times out of 10. I very rarely if ever have to redo BOSS's work. And don't forget! One last piece of advice that I've been told many times in my life and it always rings true, K.I.S.S, Keep It Simple Stupid. Eltath
Thanks for all the info timestamp, this time, I swear I will properly test after every mod is installed..... Oh and one last thing, when I run boss, and for example it says for Marts {{BASH:Actors.AIData,Actors.AIPackages,Actors.Spells,Actors.Stats,Delev,Factions,Graphics,Invent,Names,Relations,Relev,Scripts,Stats}}, should I rebuild my patch with all of those selected? Thanks sooo much for all of your help, Eltath
