Mods causing problems with other game mods?

Okay, so this isn't about a certain mod, but about mods none the less.

Given my computer using Windows, I have to move games away to a new place to safely mod them, Like MyDocuments/MyGames. So, if I have Fallout and Oblivion in the same area, MyGames, can they conflict with each other? See I was worried becasue I saw some of my Oblivion mods have the Fallout symbol in front of them instead of there normal one. If I installed them vise verse, then I may have had Fallout mods with the Oblivion symbol instead.

Help me put this to rest. Can they cause problems?

Not a 'modder' by any means but what your seeing is the file extension association that Windows picks up (e.g. for this kind of file use this program to open it when double clicked on). FOMM does this when you install it and since both games use "esp" and "esm" extensions on their data files what your describing is normal behaviour.

Shouldn't cause any problems.

As long as the 2 games are installed to separate folders - no problem. However, if you install them to the same folder they can conflict.

So installing Oblivion to C:\Games then installing FO3 to C:\Games could put them in the same folder.

Instead install to C:\Games\Oblivion and C:\Games\Fallout 3 and you will not have a problem.

Wherever you install, If you have Win7 or Vista DO NOT install to the default location unless you want to spend a lot of time fighting with the Windows UAC. Install Outside of the UAC protected 'Program Files' folders.

C:\Games is a good safe place.
