ICERAY2000
After a complete re-install and update to 1.5 of the GOTY ( Game of the Year) edition, I installed many MODS, many through FOMM (Fallout Mod Manager) including the MOD FOOK2. Here is an edited (shortened) load list - note the error message - why would i get this, when the required MODs ARE there? The game is crashing at random times with no pattern to them, so something else is also wrong, but to address this issue, how does a MOD clearly there show up as missing? anokii
I would suggest you patch to 1.7 not 1.5 - still heaps of issues in 1.5. Your FOOK2 installation is hosed - you've got a mixture of v1.0 and v1.2 - go to: http://www.fookunity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4212make sure read the instructions carefully (yeah their not great). Basically you need to remove all of the old esm's and esp's that were part of 1.0.Also make sure to get the latest hotfixes here; http://www.fookunity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4307 The version of FOOK your basically running was bug ridden and well known to be - hence the reason the team over there is trying to fix it all up. Good luck.

ICERAY2000
anokii and blove - great responses thanks! Fortunately THIS time I have a complete copy of the game imaged before MODs are added. (A bitter lesson learned the hard way.) I can copy that over, patch and try again. I thought I had the latest versions so thanks for pointing that out. There are so many components to add to this game that it's a part-time job just trying to keep up. ICERAY2000
arg. After Tuesday's Microsoft update, my PC is not a happy camper, complicating the re-install. The copy of an older, stable install of GOTY for whatever reason did not run. I re-installed the (excuse the acronyms) FO3 GOTY disk 1 with some difficulty; the uninstall didn't uninstall ANYTHING. I manually deleted everything, and of course, because of the horrendous "software protection" from securerom, I had to install the program manually, and of course it wouldn't run due to the cantankerous nature of the "protection" scheme. I expected that. Now the PC won't recognize any CD or DVD put in the drive, so I've got to figure that out, then patch to 1.5 so the game will actually RUN, then patch to 1.7, then re-install the MODs, if I can get the DVD drive to work.As I said, arg. ICERAY2000
worse- seems that the update trashed my DVD drive, or it has coincidentally died. Not condusive to troubleshooting. The universe is trying to tell me something.
ICERAY2000
My DVD drive quit. REplaced it. anokii
Your FOOK2 installation is still hosed up my friend. Methinks you failed to follow their instructions (I admit their not great), here's a snippet; STEP BY STEP: * Install Fallout 3, patch it with the official Patch 1.7, and if you own the DLCs, move them from \Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Xlive\DLC (Windows XP) or \Users\Your User Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\DLC (Windows Vista & Windows 7) to your Fallout 3\Data folder. * Download ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated! (AII!) ( http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=944 ) and install it. * Download Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM) ( http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=640 ) and install it. * Download Fallout Script Extender (FOSE) - Strongly recommended - ( http://fose.silverlock.org ) and install it. * Download and install FOOK2 1.0. * Delete EVERY SINGLE 1.0 plugins. *censored*, EVE, Mothership Zeta plugins, the main esms, remove them ALL. * It is advised that you use a clean install and a new game, rather than continuing a save from previous versions - otherwise many of the fixes may not work. * Download and install the new 1.1 Beta 2. * Use Fallout Mod Manager to arrange your load order (see Standard Load Order below) and to launch the game with FOSE. And RECOMMENDATIONS: * Be careful to remove *censored*, EVE and all the other FOOK2 plugins / fixes. They are now integrated into FOOK2 - Main.esm. * DIK now require Mothership Zeta to launch itself. * Be careful of outdated Compatibility Patches and plugins. WMK-FOOK2 plugin was already too old for FOOK2 1.0, and wasn't compatible with the EVE Plugin (which has now been merged). Outdated plugins may crash your game. * Major mods added to FOOK2 1.1 are EVE, Phalanx, DLC Refurbished, AMPUTATE, Selected Containers Respawn, Melee Lock-On, Fellout, Streetlights mod. You must remove those mods from your load order before using 1.1. * Be careful if you are using the Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch to load it before FOOK esps. Note that the UF3P Broken Steel patch may be crashing your game, with or without FOOK. * Be careful with the Destruction mod, as some of its plugins require *censored* as a master - master that don't exist anymore in 1.1. The best solution is probably to remove Destruction until a proper update is made to the mod. * It is highly advised to remove FOOK2 & DIK 1.0 from your load order, to wait with your savegame in an empty cell for four days, and then to activate FOOK2 1.1 if you dont want to create a new character. Check the credits for other incompatiblies that may happen with 1.1. * Be careful to have your game updated to official patch 1.7, and your FOSE to at least v1.2b. * Remove anything of value from the Amata, Brianna, Lucy West and Colonel Autumn followers before to install FOOK 1.1. They are removed from the mod. The Brianna and Lucy West should be generally usable by loading the original mod. Amata and Colonel Autumn will break the other followers dialogue if they are loaded, however. * Follower overhaul mods are not likely to play nice with FOOK. * Mods which make modifications to vanilla followers may make the follower not obey commands. If this happens, the author making a FOOK-specific version of the mod (when FOOK it is out of beta) should rectify this. * Some mods which add followers will break Malcolm, Deisha, and K-9, and mess up the dialogue for the other followers. This indicates a design problem with the other mod, if this happens. What you still have are all of the original FOOK2 esm / esp's loading (e.g. World and Neighborhood Kit, MyFook, on and on). And of course this is why your having problems. Now you can find all the information here: http://www.yourfook.com/downloads/ And here: http://www.fookunity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4212 And here: http://www.fookunity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4307 I personally use FOOK2 and it does work - sure there are bugs at times but it's a large mod and the guys are trying to fix it all - with that said I haven't had any issues for ages with it. Sorry to hear about all the drama's - I can sympathise since I had similar issues after deciding to try FO3 on the PC ages ago - several hardware failures and other upgrades later...... ICERAY2000
Thank you so much for that detailed and encouraging reply - I gotta tell you though, I did a completely clean install from NO FO3 at all and downloaded from their site the latest files; so it's a little difficult to hear that as they stand, as they download, they are in error. The files you say should be deleted are in the files I downloaded - how dumb is that? Download this file and then delete half of it? Crazy if you ask me. Since I am apparently hooked on this game I will try again, but I am bothered that it sounds like all my "finished characters (6 of them) who have so much experience and "stuff", you know, the customized weapons from exCalibr, the homemade completely upgraded weapons, the great armor, maxxed out skills, etc. will never be usable with their MODs, i.e., start a new game...If there are parts of the MOD that are outdated and not needed why are they in the MOD? I'm certainly no programmer, but it seems to me,,,, oh well.I will yet again start over and try to get it installed right; it's almost a full-time job now! Will update my efforts later.Again, THANK YOU!
ICERAY2000
Well, I am looking at this CAREFULLY and I already see several issues ending in confusion: 1. You pointed me to two reference pages, the main FOOK download page and then a 'help' page. The suggested load order is whacked as it suggests loading SOME .esm files, then some .esp files, then more .esm files - that can't be right. 2. the load order in the second page varies from the first suggested load order - check this out (discrepancies are within <> marks and they refer to the second suggested load order: With DLCs including Mothership Zeta: [x] Fallout3.esm [x] Anchorage.esm [x] ThePitt.esm [x] BrokenSteel.esm [x] PointLookout.esm [x] Zeta.esm [x] CALIBR.esm <other mods> [x] FOOK2 - Main.esm <* FOOK2 - Main.esm> [x] FOOK2 - [*censored*] World and Neighbourhood Kit.esm <NOT MENTIONED> [x] FOOK2 - [DIK] DLC Improvement Kit.esm <other mods> [x] FOOK2 - Main.esp [x] FOOK2 - [DIK] DLC Improvement Kit.esp < * FOOK2 Main [Hotfix].esp> < * FOOK2 DIK [Hotfix].esp> [x] FOOK2 - Mothership Zeta.esp <NOT MENTIONED> 3. If I understand their instructions they want me to install their installer and then DELETE installed files from the installation! What? Why not just NOT INCLUDE THEM? Are they saying their install is wrong? I just think that's a little shoddy for all the amazing work they have put into this. 4. I have no idea what they are talking about when they say move the DLC files from some other directory to the main data directory, mine all installed where they should go, using the GOTY edition. Anyway, my plan is to first correct the load order as best as I can figure it out, not loading esp files in between esm files; clean out the esm and esp files that have been merged into the already over-crowded install files; then find an empty room on the ship (I have to assume they are ALL interior rooms, except maybe outside the ship) do the four days of penance and see if that fixes the leveling problem and/or the freeze. If all that doesn't work, when the screaming subsides, I guess I will have to start yet another new game, and just pray that when I finally get to the control room on the Zeta ship the game will not freeze as it is currently. All the other files needed are the latest versions, downloaded just the day before yesterday. I'll dutifully report the outcome. Is the DVD coated with a highly addictive substance? Because I wouldn't go to this much trouble to play any other game!
