pretzdothack
So, this is actually the first error/crash I've gotten while playing NV, but it seems strangely familiar to the one I've gotten a few times in FO3. What happens is the game just freezes. I see some dots on the screen in a grid like pattern, my screen flickers and goes black. Then the sounds cues back up, but I get no picture. I cannot get back to my desktop without restarting. I can't tell when it happens most, but I think it's when I'm going into a menu or vats, or something similar. The only NV mod I'm running is the BOG Replacer. Would that be causing it? Thanks for any help/support you can provide. I'm pretty new to this whole thing. pretzdothack
Sounds like an overheating video card to me.Hmm.. You think? How can I find this out? I'm running an ATI Radeon HD4850. NV sets itself on Ultra High settings and I've never had this problem on any other games. Final Fantasy XIV and SCII run pretty good and they're way more of a graphics hog. zedundead
you can check your temps with a program called GPU-Z or HWmonitor they're both free
pretzdothack
you can check your temps with a program called GPU-Z or HWmonitor they're both freeThanks! Okay, I got the program installed, but honestly, I have no idea what I'm looking at. Well, let me rephrase that. I don't know when what I'm looking at is bad. Also, how would I look at the program while in-game? Edit: Windowed mode. Duh. lol
zedundead
Which one did you get? For GPU-Z go into the Sensors tab and look at the bottom of the program for a check box that says "continue refreshing this screen while GPU-Z is in the background" and check it. Then load up FNV and after say 5-10 min, exit and look at the GPU temperature line. If its upwards of 90c then you are overheating. For HWmonitor you just load it up. Then start FNV and do the same. Find your video card line and look at the max value. edit: or windowed mode :D

My current temperature is at 57C with my fan speed at 77%. Temp seems to be fluctuating between 57-59. Edit: After going into the wastes and fighting some things using VATS only, my temperature has actually dropped to low 50's. Guess it isn't an overheating problem. That's good news. And I got this nifty program. Thanks~
zedundead
Haha no problem, your problems could be from a bad driver install. What catalyst version are you using?
pretzdothack
Haha no problem, your problems could be from a bad driver install. What catalyst version are you using? The newest, I think. 10.9. Like I said though, I had this problem with FO3, and it's unlikely that the newest drivers wouldn't work a 2+ year old game. Hmm. I'm not using any of the same mods between the two games either.
zedundead
Thats pretty strange I've never heard of only one game causing graphical glitches like that. Oh well I'm spent on my knowledge. Sorry I couldn't help more. Have a good one.
