pretzdothack
Thats pretty strange I've never heard of only one game causing graphical glitches like that. Oh well I'm spent on my knowledge. Sorry I couldn't help more. Have a good one. No problem. Thanks for your help!
GrindedStone
Try using whatever settings were auto detected. Disable AA an AF, then your native resolution, don't change anything else there. Go in-game an change the distance sliders to half whatever was auto detected...

GrindedStone
Were you AutoSaving or Quicksaving in these games which crashed? What I'm talking about isn't going to change how New Vegas looks. Yah you have to get used to lower settings at first, however in the long run it's much better. Less wear an tear on your grapics card an system, and also that much more stability from Taxxed & OverTaxxed systems being more prone to coruption. At least from your perspective what you want to do is lower some of the settings to see if this crashing is directly linked to game settings an your system being Taxxed. When I say Taxxed I mean durring times of HIgh loading/un-loading to which we view as grapical lag or stuttering. It's just the easy way to rule out a problem. If it's not this, then it's your computer system software configuration, or even that mod you use. Also maybe try some of the Tweekguide stuff. For exampe quad core CPU's tended to freeze up the game in FO3.

When I'm going into a menu for whatever reason, mostly during VATS I believe. It just happened to me twice in the house with the Gutsy in Nipton. I suppose it is menus. I saw a file that "fixes" quad core problems. Generally though those people are plagued by stuttering and all around non-playableness. I'll try that out and see though. No. Even after applying the "fix" it still did it. I even turned down some of my settings. I'll try without the fix, and turn down my settings too. I'm still wary of it all. I don't get why it would be happening in both Fo3 and NV if it was a mod. The only thing I have is a replacer.
GrindedStone
They were right to suspect a near death grapics card. Check an see if your grapics card control panel settings are set to "let the 3D application decide" to avoid conflicts an extra wear an tear. This could be a product from using excessive settings in the past or what you use currently. I'd start there, turn it all the way down an see what happens. The Cell Buffer is known to cause all sorts of wierd problems just like autosave, quicksave, an the continue button. Kind of makes me thing that when this happens your game has gone corupted for one reason or the other. Personally I know for sure that my vanilla game doesn't have any issue before I move on to installing any mod or tweek. This is done thru testing. 1. start a new game on your current settings, an see what happens. 2. Try again with another new game only on lowest settings

I've had it for about a year, and before I got into the FFXIV and Fo3 (Less than 4 months ago) the most this computer was used for was internet/streaming. Then again, I vaguely remember reading something about the HD4850 being garbage. The settings on my card are all set to app decide, and I've tweaked the games settings down quite a bit after every crash. I might just make some back-ups and do a vanilla install and see. Ugly characters are ugly though. D:
LordNighthawk4
I wouldn´t expect a near dead graphics card. I got a 4830 and it is definatly not near dead actually. And i got the same issue like you, game freezes up with some strange patterns, but i found out that the ATI Driver in that second just tries to recover your graphic card driver -> but it does not manage to do that, so the graphics keeps frozen but music still plays in background. I started another test today, just reduced resolution and windowed mode and i was able to play for about 5 hours now without any freeze/crash. That is definatly no solution for me (i HATE windowed mode), but it´s a point where i can start searching for a solution.
zedundead
If I were you guys I would try rolling back video drivers (clean install). Right now I'm running 10.4 and they still work great. If you don't know how to clean install drivers just tell me.
