hoss156
I just had my first crash and lost 4 hours of work. The quick saves and auto saves are now 4 hours older then when the crash occurs. Will this be common and is there a way to prevent this? Also by chance where exactly is the master installed program for the game? FO3 was located in the progam files but I cant seem to find FONV on my computer. I am not that good with fiddling with files.

dwil00
The Auto/Quick saves are not working. I lost about 3hrs of play. Tried to load a save and it took be back to 1hr into the game. The only thing that works right now is manually save it until Steam can figure it out. There is a lot of talk about this problem on the Steam Forums. Autosaves and manual saves are being lost. From what I hear, disabling Steam Cloud should fix the problem. Testing now... Yeah, it does fix the problem, but only for manual saves. Autosaves are still lost.
Ez0n3
I think the problem is that steam is overwriting the normal save with a backup. Steam keeps an old copy of my save in: ../Steam/userdata/71828068/22380/remote/ When it crashes (and sometimes even on normal exit), it will overwrite my save in: ../My Documents/My Games/FalloutNV/Saves/ with the one from the steam remote dir. It seems that it only overwrites:autosave.fosquicksave.fosfalloutprefs.ini (sometimes) Usually, the saves in ../My Documents/My Games/ with the ".bak" extension are just about where I saved last. So I backup my saves/files in both places (just in case), then:Delete all files in: ../Steam/userdata/71828068/22380/remote/Delete both autosave.fos and quicksave.fos from ../My Documents/My Games/FalloutNV/Saves/Copy autosave.fos.bak and quicksave.fos.bak to the same dir they are in and rename them to autosave.fos and quicksave.fos respectively. IE:1) I quicksave and play for a bit.2) I quicksave again (renames save from "1" to *.bak)3) Exit game (crash or normally occasionally)4) Steam overwrites save from "2" with an old backup from before "1"5) Remove Steam saves and the saves it overwrote6) Use ".bak" save from "1" (only a little behind "2") rather than Steams save (way before "1") *add this to list of reasons to hate steam* (optional)
furtim
My quicksaves are fine, actually, but my autosaves keep getting rolled back to just outside Doc Mitchell's place after character creation. It only happens when leaving and restarting the game, not while the game is in progress. I'm not sure we can really blame Steam for this, since there was a similar problem with GFWL and Fallout 3. (And I've played a good number of other Steamworks-using games that don't have savegame issues...)
Ez0n3
I wish it was just my autosaves, I never use those. I hate GFWL too, they are both on my "I don't need this crap running or messing with files" list. ;) Steam's been high on that list since my 9hr Half-Life 2 install. fevy
It seems like I can't load my saves at all anymore. It keeps crashing while loading them at the startup of the game. Auto-save or not. The result is the "FalloutNV has stopped working". Does anyone else have this issue? Looks like my only option right now is to start a new character. Guest deleted2159825
It's reassuring to see I'm not the only one with this infuriating issue (just lost 4 hours of gameplay and all my money made in the casino!). Thanks for the info, fellas. The Forums here seem to be more helpful than any official channels. Sweet Jesus I hate Steam.
