Staff Overhaul

I started playing as a mage and realized that staffs in oblivion are very under/overpowered. As I'm not very good at modding and/or scripting, I'm posting this as a request or an idea for a mod.

1. I was thinking that staffs should be using magicka instead of charges, because the effects on the staffs with my warrior character are the same as with my mage character. My point is that staffs should be less effective when you are using them as a warrior and should use magicka instead of charges.

2. Staffs are rare to find so they should become more common.

3.Staffs should also be weaker and/or stronger.

That's all for now, it's possible that I will post more ideas later and you can post your ideas as well.

P.S. My english is weak so there are probably mistakes in the text.

A person can't have everything. It doesn't make much sense to ask that staffs be stronger AND weaker. You might want to think about the situation and figure out if you want stronger staffs OR weaker staffs. There are a great many staffs available in the game, but you won't see most of them until your character has risen in levels. Many of the staffs are weaker than your staff. Many of them are stronger. About the most powerful staff I have seen does 99 damage in one hit. Staffs that do 80 damage in one hit are common at high levels.

The hard coding might prevent a person from making a staff use up magicka. I have seen magic rings and weapons that add a spell to the player when the item is equipped, and then remove the spell when the item is unequipped. But if you had a staff like this and used the spell it gave you, the game would use the hand casting animation rather than the staff casting animation. It would be cool if there was a way to make the staffs drain magicka though, and be more powerful in the hands of a mage than a warrior.

The staffs suck. It's just that simple. They're easy-out-of-a-jam guns for warrior types who are overpowered by enemies with arrows (like the Sylvan Rangers in OOO), and what's worse they look stupid as hell being held like rifles. I guess Bethesda thought it would be cool to treat them as guns from a 1st person perspective ala Hexen (which is cool, I agree), but then they made the boneheaded mistake of thinking that would look good in 3rd Person too.

Wrong answer, McFly. Mages look really dumb in the menu screen holding their staffs like guns. "THIS IS MY STAFF AND THIS IS MY GUN! ONE'S FOR FIGHTING AND ONE'S FOR FUN!"

The staffs might be easy and dull, but they would be a lot cooler if they looked a little more wizardly in 3rd Person. I'd love to see a mod that redoes the animations for walking and running with staffs. Walking would be holding it upright like a walking stick. You know, like wizards do in every single picture of fantasy artwork? Running would be either holding it in one hand as they run normally, or still using it for some support as they ran.

I should totally do that, actually. I think I could. If nobody else wants to, I will. After election day and I have some free time.

By making staffs stronger and weaker I meant making overpowered staffs less powerful and those weak staffs more powerful.
