Hey all im having quite a big problem at the mo.

when i start oblivion the screen just flickers black and then returns to the desktop.

Ive tried everything mentioned in this thread

http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/86069-oblivion-wont-run/page__st__10

So to recap: Im running it through OBSE, my mod order has been sorted by BOSS and the compiler im using is OBMM (my operating system is vista)

The problem started when i tried to load Better cities (main and the 2 resource packs) and on my old computer when i tried kvatch rebuilt

my load order is :

Oblivion.ESM

Better cities resources.ESM

HorseCombatMaster.ESM (the throw back file from deadly reflex)

DLCShiveringIsles.ESP

CapesAndCloaks.ESP

New Frostmourne Sword by jojjo V1.ESP

Servant of the Dawn.ESP

Apachii Goddess store.ESP

Knights.ESP (of the nine DLC)

Tears of the fiend.ESP

The Lost Spires.ESP

Ring of concsole.ESP (im on vista)

MidasSpells.ESP

Deadly Reflex.ESP

Corean hair for original race.ESP

IDKRRR C race.ESP (desu chan dolls)

IDKRRR C race closed mouth version.ESP

Chocolate elves.ESP

x8 Better cities.ESP(s) (cant be bothered to type all)

Streamline 3.1.ESP

If you fix my problem i will love you forever and go out of my way if you need to be pulled from a burning building (unless im on a lunch break)

First you need to make sure that your main game isn't broken. Disable ALL of your mods, except for the Unofficial patches, then try to see if it starts up. If it does, then you know the problem is one of your mods. I always keep a full backup of my Vanilla install Data directory on an external HD so I can just swap it in for my modded game when things go badly wrong.

Ok every single file except the master is deactivated and its still not functioning, awaiting further instruction :)

You now know it's not a mod that is actively causing the CDT. That doesn't mean a mod isn't at fault. It's possible one of them was improperly installed, or possibly overwrote a required resource with corrupt data. Do you have a backup of your Data directory? If so, rename your current Data directory so Oblivion doesn't recognize it, and then copy your backup into your Oblivion directory. If you can't do that, it's possible you may have to re-install Oblivion, unless someone else can suggest something that's not quite so drastic.

KK il get right on that. So i assume when its re installed i just add the mods one by one until i find the one that breaks it? (probly better cities)

Couple of things. If you're on Win7 or Vista make sure you don't install Oblivion to the default directory. Install it anywhere but in your programs folder. I use c:games\Oblivion. This keeps you from running afoul of the UAC. Secondly, after you get a clean install, back up as much of your Oblivion folder as you can -- at the very least your Data folder, so you can restore things manually (and quickly) in the future. Finally, yes, install and test each mod separately. Use BOSS to fix your load order, if necessary. The official plug-ins should be OK. You didn't mention any of the Unofficial patches in your load order, but you really need to be using those. Go here and grab all the relevant patches in the Bug Fixes section.

Oh ... almost forgot. Lose the Ring of Console. Install OBSE and get Change Console Key which will remap the console key to F12. This works a LOT better than having to equip a silly ring every time you need to access the console.

have you been tinkering with your .ini file?

Or maybe something has changed in that. It's in your mydocuments/mygames/oblivion folder, if none of the above works then delete it and reload the game, it will make a new file for you when it runs.

What was it? By letting us know your solution you might be helping someone later on with a similar problem. That's one reason for keeping threads like this one, rather than just deleting them when someone posts "problem solved".

Better Cities was trying to take precedence over the master file (and scrambled it) so i just re installed oblivion and took special care when re instaling Better cities to make sure it went STRAIGHT to the back of the load order.

hope it helps :)
