CTD when "paying bounty" to a guard

I've committed some crimes and approach a guard to pay my bounty.

 

He explains that he's taking me to a castle.

 

A new screen loads... and then the game crashes to desktop.

 

Does anyone know what might be causing this? Is this a known problem? Is there a patch I am missing? Is some mod that I'm using potentially causing this?

 

Where, precisely is this "castle" that he's taking me to? Perhaps one of my city mods is creating a problem or something?

If it's crashing after attempting to load the new area that typically indicates there is an issue within that cell. The cell would be the Prison District of the Imperial City. The Annex to the North East.

 

Try going there and entering the area without being forcefully placed there. Does the area load normally then? Or does it also crash? I would be willing to bet it will crash also. If that is the case it's likely a mod altering that cell causing problems. You mention you have some 'city mods', likely this is the cause. Try deactivating them and enter the area again. What happens now? If it loads normally then you know it's related to a mod you just deactivated. If again you crash you'll need to keep disabling mods until you get to a 'vanilla' state. By vanilla I mean no mods, zero, zilch. Keep deactivating mods one by one and trying to enter the area in question. Once the area loads properly you'll know which mod caused the problem. Since it's likely the last mod you deactivated was the culprit. Then you can investigate further to identify the conflict, or is it simply a dirty mod.

 

Those steps will help you determine where the problem lies. It would also be very helpful if you post your Load Order when you have problems. Many times problems can be identified by simply looking over the LO. So always post it when asking for help. The more information we have the better we can evaluate the issue. So in your next post include this information. Your problem could simply be a LO issue, loading mods in a proper order is very important to a stable game. BOSS is excellent for handling your LO.

Thanks for the reply. I went through your suggested course of action and worked it out:

 

When I either disabled Frans+MMM or Adense Epic Dungeon the crashes stopped. So some interaction involved in those mods were causing the crashes.

 

I uninstalled Adense Epic and the CTDs have stopped.
