The Captial Wasteland in FONV

I don't know if any of you have tried this, but if you copy your Fallout3.esm to your New Vegas data folder you can actually CoC to any of the Fallout 3 cells and explore a wasteland full of missing meshes.

Enemies work, map markers work, the world map works, the dialogue works.

I haven't tested this but I'm pretty sure that if you extract all of the F3 .bsa's (or renamed the bsa's?) to NV data you could play it without the missing meshes and textures. Most of the resources in F3 are already in FNV though, but Megaton's a mess for example.

So, how about a team gets together to create a separate .esp that would disable the main quest, add a legitimate way to travel from Nevada to DC, so pretty much a compability patch. We can't upload the Fallout 3 resources but we can provide a tutorial on how people can copy their resources to FNV.

I'd love to re-visit D.C. with my Vegas character, companions and weapons at least :)

P.s. I personally don't have the time to make this although I doubt it would be that hard, I'm more proposing that someone else would start this project.

Idk how morroblivion met its fate but maybe it was that the original files were put into the download. If you could do it yourself with your own fallout 3 files through help from the mod Wouldn't that be ok? That would be kinda cool but I personally didn't like fallout 3's area too much.

Nope! As far as I have learned no original files where distributed with Morroblivion. The main mod was a program that looked for the original resources on the users harddisk and converted them to Oblivion. The same thing would be needed here to make it easy for the user.

This program would be 100% legal because the mod user need both games but Bethesda don't like it.

I assume the reason is the to keep a strict don't use resources from other games policy. Such things have to be made in the underground :pirate: and private.

How you use the files that are on your computer is your prerogative. If such a mod did exist they might have an installer that detects your fallout 3 installation dir from your registry, then copies the files over and installs their compatibility esp in the new vegas dir. There is nothing fishy about that. and apparently that's all it takes.

What I like is the idea of all those new features from NV (like companions and iron sights) being usable for Fallout 3. Basically using the New Vegas exe to play Fallout 3.

Ya know I was just about to ask if something like this was going be made, but to see that it is as simple as moving a few textures and the ESM, wow. Yeah it would be nice to have a legitimate way to travel between them, but it's cool that you can visit the Fo3 cells. Looks like I'm not going to be playing Fo3 for a looong time now that I can have an enhanced Fo3 in New Vegas. Do any of the quests work? Are the NPCs there? Can you still recruit companions?
