Dragon Age Console - PAININTHENECK

Hi,

I've been trying to get the bloody console in DAO to work. I did all the enabledeveloperconsole crap in the daorigins.exe shortcut and everything went smoothly. then i wanted to set the key for the console in the keybinding-Editor, and did as instructed by millions of websites and forums. but the bloody console won't open, no matter wich key I type into the editor (I save the editor after the alteration of course). during the game my character still moves when I press the button, and nothing happens.

I lost my original DA Origins disk, so i cracked it with a No CD Crack. could that be the problem?? sounds wierd to me

Thanx for any help

A "no CD crack" will typically modify the exe to not look for the disk. That is probably where you problem lies. The Mod Manager has an option to "run Dragon Age with console" which can be located in the drop down menu of the "run button" in the lower left corner of the manager...so you might try that. It might have the same problem though with the cracked exe file.

I would be very careful about losing your disk in the future. There are some that are quite suspicious of that explanation and the DANexus is quite severe to people they think are using pirated material....not accusing you of anything, just a good FYI to consider.

I'd recommend checking your keybinding.ini file. Check to make sure that the key that you're trying to use for the console isnt already bound to another function. Keybinding file is located in documents/bioware/dragon age/settings folder.

Thanx very much to everyone... I'll try using the mod manager.

All that the DAO-Modmanager (DAMM) does is turn the starting of DA with the Console activated into a dropdown menu item to click. The user still has to "invoke" the Console with the proper key.

BTW: NOTHING appears to happen when you invoke the Console itself. And unless you've installed the mod "Make Console Commands Visible", you won't see anything on-screen even when you're typing the commands. And depending on which command you type, (and whether or not you had an invisible typo) you may not notice if it's been executed.

actually, you will see this unless you use a make console commands visible mod when you start typing "runscript <whatever>" after activating it with your assigned console key.

these are the instructions I used for enabling my console and it worked the first time...

Enabling console

Ummmm...?

[Edited after re-thinking what EXTR3M was saying.]

After installing the "Make Console Commands Visible" mod, when you press the assigned key to "invoke" the Console, a small " > " cursor appears in the top-left corner to indicate that you're IN the Console. What you type appears directly after the " > ".

If you type nonsense (anything that the Console does not recognize as a valid command) and press "Enter", it will sometimes seem to freeze your character and mouse cursor (can't move or change POV) for a bit. But it has a self-timeout anyway, so you really aren't stuck for long.

(Got so used to the invisible console that I hardly ever bother even looking any more! )

That weird "nonsense" is what showed up on the screen as soon as I typed the "r" in "runscript" after hitting the console key but before I started using the "make console commands visible" mod. Now it works just as Thandal describes. (that mod should really be named "added font .erf file to make console commands read-able" or something which more accurately describes it  ) The console was visible before when you activated it, but only after you started typing "runscript". Then it just looked like a bunch of random characters at the top of your screen and you couldn't tell what you typed.....kinda like a bunch of random weird crap like when you try to open something up in notepad that is designed to be opened with a different program before the "visible mod". That was how I could tell in the old days that the console was actually open/active. (so happy for that new font mod  )
