You mean those fluorescent dots ? Lol maybe in vanila game they are no use but with my mod that makes night really very dark then those "thingies" are very helpful. I dont understand why you dont like them, maybe you dont know much about real guns. Almost all new modern guns have fluorescent dots or optical fiber. That way its easier to aim when in dark.

Well there is no need to disparage someone's knowledge of 'real guns'. For a start new vegas is not about the modern era, no guns had those sights 50 years ago and the Fallout universe split from ours in late 40s/50s .

I find they detract from my experience of the game. They look ugly, out of place, and I don't want them. I don't care about the supposed real guns or modern guns, especially not in FNV

You probably won't get too much feedback from the original posters since this thread ended 5 years ago. But I think what the OP was saying is that they are very common

I think this is a misconception that easy to make. Fallout's universe did diverge from our universe at some point after 1945, but chronologically they had well over a century (130+ years) of development, taking them past the 20th century and well into the 21st (2077). So something you might associate with our world's late 20th century tech, tritium/night sights, could have and did (as demonstrated by glow sights in FONV and FO4) exist in the fallout world....probably developed roughly at about teh same period in time as our universe.

Yeah I understand the aesthetic appeal of the retro scif-fi setting actually set in the 50s. I worked with a mod author that was really into the 50's americana (and strangely enough she was Swedish) who felt the same way. She felt that fallout 's time line extending to the 2070's spoiled the game/setting.

And I have to admit, it's an appealing concept of an alternate universe where fallout's final war occurred in the 50's. Alternate timeline stories have always interested me. I think since most of the really advanced armaments like plasma weapons (according to the wiki) are based on recovered alien tech, one could come up with a semi cohesive fiction along the lines of a apocalypse mid 20th century.

But it's important to understand that the official fallout world did go through the 50's and 60's but also 80's, 90' and well into the 21st century (over 6 decades of development beyond our present). So they did have "real guns or modern guns" regardless of how out of place they may seem next to some of fallout's other weapons. In a shared universe, lore is king, even if it strikes some users as discordant, and FONV is proof positive that late 20th century and 21st century weapons were in play in the fallout universe.

Of course in your own personal fallout experience, anything is fair game.....from small changes in lore to total conversions.
