RustyBlade
I'm trying to edit the companion utc's. I have extracted them and have opened them in toolcrap. The problem comes after I make the one single edit I am trying to make (appearance code) and try to save - it crashes every time. I know it can be done because we have elven characters that were formerly human so I must be doing something wrong. Does anyone have any idea what that might be? :wallbash:
DarkeWolf
Very odd. lets just run thru the checklist. Did you close the original file, and open up the extracted file to edit? Are you running the TS in administrator mode? What appearance code are you using? This is wierd amigo :(
RustyBlade
I exported every companion utc other than Wynne as just copied danscott's - those edited just fine too. Erf was closed. Always in administrator mode. Codes are 38 and 67 for the Warden Kids mod I am working on (not for release.) Reboot gave no joy either. Could I have exported them wrong somehow? It crashes on any change, not just appearance (tried a sex change as a test.) Edit: I extracted the entire designercreatures.erf this time around. It doesn't matter which utc I choose, any save or save as crashes the toolcrap. I'm beginning to think my instance of toolcrap has a broken extractor. Sylriel
Don't bother wracking your brains with the toolset editing utc files. The toolset always crashes when I try to use it to edit utc and uti files. Once you have the utc files extracted, use gffeditor.exe which you can find in [Program Files]\Dragon Age\tools. That worked for me. EDIT:I forgot to add that you can also use nwn2gff.exe. It is older but, it has worked for me as well. You can find a link to it here. DarkeWolf
Argh! Sorry RB I didnt mean to leave you hanging there. Got unexpectedly called outta town. :(BUT... glad to see that you got it working! Hope you have fun changing your characters around, I know that I do :D I would say that you might try reinstalling the TS, but as tempermental as that b!*ch is, I'd leave it alone if the other functions are working ok. It might not run again after the reinstall :verymad: Kudos for the assist Sylriel! Great work! :)
RustyBlade
Well for some strange reason the nwn2gff.exe has stopped functioning on my desktop PC. I did however manage to get my toolset updated to 1.01 without incident - still can't save utc's though. In frustration, I tried to put the toolset on my laptop but that was a waste of time, something to do with the WMI settings and the only way I can fix that is to reinstall the OS and as I need the laptop for work, it ain't happening. The nwn2gff.exe does work on the laptop though so until it goes belly up I can transfer the utc's to it, make my edits and transfer them back. It's only about 100 files so hopefully I can get them done before nwn2gff.exe spits the bit on that machine. If the Bioware team had to put up with that kind of crap through the creation of the game it is no wonder it came out as buggy as it did.
Sylriel
Interesting that nwn2gff.exe stopped working. I have never had that happen. But then I have not used it in a while either. How about gffeditor.exe? Did that one work for you? That's the one I've been using. I don't think the toolset has anything built in. I think it uses gffeditor.exe to edit utc files but it is poorly implemented. Gffeditor.exe seems to work on its own. I think whoever wrote the code for the toolset f'ed up. That's my guess anyway. RustyBlade
I just did it all on my laptop and then moved things back to my desktop PC; all 103 utc's are edited so I won't have to worry about it for a while and even if I do it is simple enough to move things with a flash drive so I'm not going to worry about the toolset not being able to do it. Now if only there was a way to work with ncs files...
