Can't export 3ds max file

So I stripped down the ulysses armor so that only the long coat remains. Merged it with the merc grunt outfit and exported it as one whole armor. This works perfect ingame, had no trouble exporting it at all!

 

After that, I tried adding more armor pieces to it, doing it the exact same way (import armor without skeleton, merging the final result with the skeleton.nif file and export that). But for some reason, it gives me an error, or the message that I have to specify at least one bone node.

 

I tried everything, followed every tutorial there is, but still no succes.. So I was wondering if you guys could tell me what I do wrong. The piece I want to add is the little metal plate at the left upper arm (part of the blastmaster raider armor)

 

The file was created in 3dsmax 2010 32 bit, don't remember the exact version of the nif plugin..
