PrincessBridget
I'm using OLDblivion so my laptop with Intel 945 video card can play Oblivion. Everything's mostly fine other than I have to use spellstrip to prevent crashes when people use spells/drains. Anyway, I noticed whenever I use a mod that adds user-made meshes, it lags REALLY badly when I look at it, like 1 to 4 fps, from 20 or 30 for example. It lags mainly for armor and clothes I think, because other objects like treasure chests can be PYFFI'd to not lag I guess. I researched and it seems PYFFI can't do things like armor :(. I installed OOO, and everything was good until I came up to an NPC with armor added by OOO (LAGGGGGG). I uninstalled and decided to play vanilla and everything is fine again as far as fps. The huge lag happens with any armor mod I use, and I can't play the Curse of Hircine werewolf mod either because that adds your body and claws etc as armor. Soo I'm wondering has anyone else noticed this mod-killing problem and is there anything that can be done other than..just not using mods that add armor/clothes/maybe weapons? I play with TLB on by the way, kinda have to.
bben46
Oldblivion makes it possible to play Oblivion on a computer that would normally not qualify due to system requirements. So your computer is underpowered to begin with. Any mod that increases the load on it will cause slow down. Be it an enhanced graphic mod to make things look better or a mod with a lot of scripts that will overload the CPU. I'm actually surprised the OOO didn't bring it down so the CPU must not be too bad and most of the slow down will be seen in heavy graphics type mods. Many modded clothing and armors do have a higher count of vertices than the vanilla. Plus, the vanilla assets have been optimized much better for lower resolutions. And by having to move them as a character moves it will cause the GPU to work much harder than it does for a chest which just sits in one place. PrincessBridget
But, optimizing the problem meshes (treasure chests from OOO was one) with PYFFI fixes the lag problem completely and makes it like vanilla speed. But PYFFI won't work with armors etc from what I read, so is there nothing I can do? But what's interesting is the naked HGEC body works completely fine, yet others based on it like TGND are insanely slow on here.
