Hi,

this could be important for steam users of the game.

As soon as I read about this patch I made a backup of the game (I have the steam version). The backup was just a file copy of the corresponding steam folder. Just to be sure I wanted to do a backup using steam's own backup function. Should have known that was a bad idea. Steam verified the integrity and forced me into online mode so it could verify the game files. So I got forced to version 1.2.1. Lucky for me I made the manual backup first: So doing a file diff of the steam directory I was able to restore the old state. Once I did, I could start the game in offline mode and load a modded savegame with mods enabled without problems. (Important: I never started version 1.2.1, just downloaded the update).

So If you still have v 1.2.0 I recommend that you copy the Dying Light folder in steamapps/common/ somewhere safe. You might be able to return to the old version this way if things turn bad using the following procedure.

1) Make a backup of the Dying Light folder in steamapps/common/ to somewhere outside the steam folder tree.

2) Do NOT start the updated version. Just let steam download the update or verify the integrity.

3) Once steam reports the game is ready to play switch to offline mode.

4) Copy back the backup folder to its original location, overwriting files..

On a sidenote for the tech savvy: This seems to be an excellent way to get the differences between the 1.2.0 and 1.2.1 files without using a second PC. You should still be able to return to a modable state (But using a second PC would be the recommended way, No warranty that this works for future updates/steam versions).

Here's a list of the changed files. I will not upload these files, since I'm not sure whether this would be illegal. But maybe someone else will...

Dying Light
│ DyingLightGame.exe
│ engine_x64_rwdi.dll
│ filesystem_x64_rwdi.dll
│ gamedll_x64_rwdi.dll
│ imagelib_x64_rwdi.dll
│ jsoncpp_vs2010_x64_rwdi.dll
│ memdump_x64_rwdi.dll
│ ogg_vs2010_x64_rwdi.dll
│ rd3d11_x64_rwdi.dll
│ ropengl_x64_rwdi.dll
│ vorbisfile_vs2010_x64_rwdi.dll
│ vorbis_vs2010_x64_rwdi.dll
│
└───DW
    └───Data
            optimized_dx11.mp

I'm still hoping there will be a way to enable mods in future game versions. Until then, I hope this might allow a few to keep mods working.
