Jen4
Hi Guys , Name's giovanni ( friends calls me jo ) , i used to an amatorial 3d artist (i don't have a portfolio so feel free to browse my imageshack and photobucket account :) ) , and i've found fallout 3 and now newvegas extremley free in his "universe" , so i want to start to make some mods for FONV ... and i got a pair of questions : 1- I've seen that the animations are preety ugly , im an animator too , i want to know if there's a chance to change the 1st p anims... if there's any kinda of hand rigs for FONV (or FO3 too) 2- im an artist but not a compiler or scripter , even in these last days of play i've managed a way to merge weapons/armors and assign that to nps and their inventory via FO3edit ... did u suggest me to start a new esm/esp with the geck ? (means any tut availible? xD ) 3- I've seen a shitload of potential in FONV , and i want to know if in your opinion there's a way to make armor/clothes attachments , like a bag that can be equipped only if a kind of armor/cloth is equipped too . (not a priority but still in my head) 4- i've found words like nif... nif .... nif ... i've thought that had to be with the custom mesh/textures ... any chance of found somekind of plugin for max ? tnks 4 anything p.s. here a bunch of links for my works (credentials like)model + textures are minehttp://i764.photobucket.com/albums/xx286/serpico84/turret_fin_render.jpghis animations and sounds too , but u know source is so restrictive in these termshttp://www.moddb.com/mods/smod-troopers/videos/umt-turret#imageboxshotgunZ :) model of ultimate_bastard , textures minehttp://img299.imageshack.us/f/rendero.jpg/model Zer0 , textures minehttp://img706.imageshack.us/f/render5905.jpg/crysis new scar, model and textures are minehttp://img70.imageshack.us/f/wip213p.jpg/
WastelandAssassin
ok, i'll try to answer all of your questions, as much as i know what first person animations do you want to change??also, there are animation mods for Fallout 3, and one (that i know of) was converted to NV as well, and that's Fallout Re-Animatedbut that covers only weapon animations, if i remember correctly (and i mean the animations for holding weapons and such)if you want specific animations, i would suggest you to go to the Fallout 3 Nexus, click on the "Browse Categories" and select the animations categorythere you can find all the animation mods, so you can find what you wanti hope this at least helps with that question what kind of a tutorial do you need?? one on how to add items to characters and such??basically, this site has probably all you need to know about the GECK, and since the NV GECK should be just about the same as the Fallout 3 one, you should have no problems using this site for whatever information you need for question 3, i know that this can be done, using scriptingif i am correct, than the script would even be an easy one to makein fact, i think that i can write such a script rather easily (given proper information, of course) a NIF file isn't something that you can open in 3DMax (at least as far as i know)download NifSkope, which is the only tool i know of, for modifying NIF filesthan you can extract the meshes to modify with 3DMax i hope this answers your questions

WastelandAssassin
don't worry, your english is fineit's just a matter of understanding the small print or little details, which is something that most don't write now, i'm afraid i'm not quite sure about thati've never tried to put a new animation on a gun, but if i remember correctly, you can do itbasically, if you place your animation inside the animation folder, where all the weapon animations are, then you will be able to choose that animation for a weapon (or at least, that's as far as i can remember) i think i'm going to work on the GECK tomorrow, doing a request, so if i will, i'll check about that, and i'll give you a new answer

WastelandAssassin
i'm still not 100% sure, but i think that if you add the animation to the animation folder, than you can make the weapons use specific animations, so you can give each weapon a unique animation

BGatot
It certainly will be cool if there could be a proper reloading animation for a few of the bullpup weapons I downloaded. Right now, they're reloading as if the magazine is still in front of the trigger!
VGfallout
i tried slapping in the original animations (named differently, for example reload_vga, reload_vgb, etc) into the base directory to see if there is some sort of "detection" within the geck for any new/custom animations that operate independently from the base originals - no go i searched just about everywhere i could think of to find some sort of form/manifest where perhaps weapon/character animations would be defined/listed - couldnt find anything while i dont have a wizard-level proficiency in g.e.c.k.i.n.g., i'm quite familiar with most of its functionality and sadly am left with the following conclusion we most likely can only edit/work off of the base/original weapon/character animations and must "override" the defaults to see any changes that can be used in game. so we're stuck with either a.) improving upon originals while maintaining accurate "sequence" coordinates in the bone structure (so hands line up properly with all of the other weapons that share the same animation set) b.) find an animation set that is barely used/undesirable, and completely redesign it from scratch. this would be very inefficient and also require re-assigning any remnant entities/resources that the set use to a different (from within the originals) animaiton set that would look/behave decent enough to be considered acceptable. actually theres numerous disadvantages/procedural corrections/modifications involved in choice b.) which i will not go into for my own and the reader's sake as the result would only serve as a deterrent to reaching this desired objective, at best i still remain hopeful that it is only our ignorance or lack of experience inhibiting progress/development in this aspect of the enginei sound like such a douche when i speak properly now everyone kneelNOW! recite this prayer with me (or die!) o'mighty gaming gods, bless us with the knowledge we seek & guide us towards a path of clarity as we travel through lands of mystery & confusion. grant us full awareness as "wtf" mysts engulf us leading us astray from deliverance. allow us to provide not only for ourselves, but as well to those who are unable or unwilling to provide for themselves. in the name of the ghandi, the n. mendizzle & the burning monk gg that should do the trick ...
