Gwyvern
what is the proper method for exporting a weapon model from blender (.blend) to the .nif format? just using the .nif tools for blender does not work, or i missed somthing as when i load it up in the geck i get a big <!> in the preview, and having absolutely no experience to go on i cannot determine the problem myself thanks (again) this wonderful and helpfull forum community for any assistance
Topazanite
Are you going straight from Blender to the GECK? You can't export a .nif file straight from Blender and have it immediately usable in the game. You need to use NifScope to apply textures, which have to be .dds files. Quetzlsacatanango
I dl'ed your file last night, and the nif file was empty. So I opened the blend file, selected all meshes, then exported, and got a nif with your gun in it. So I guess that'd be the first step. I've never messed with weapons so I don't know where to go from there, maybe it would work as-is.
Topazanite
This may sound completely condescending, but I totally made this mistake when I started out: are you using Blenders Save/Save As functions, or the Export function? You need to Export --> .nif (Gamebryo/NetImmerse) for Blender to make a .nif. I must have reinstalled the .nif scripts 5 times, thinking they weren't working . . . Gwyvern
no im using the export function, but the whole nifscope texture application i have not done...i just exported from blender and open in the GECK. so to make it work i must apply textures to it with nifscope? other than the GECK webpage is there a tutorial for this step? the one on that site seems rather specific to the 10mm pistol (edit) i have a few hours before i get home, so i might aswell ask this now to save time when i arrive, how do i turn an image from PNG / w/e to a .dds? Quetzlsacatanango
I didn't extract your textures, but if they were already done in blender you shouldn't have to do anything (texture-wise) in nifskope. If your textures were anything other than dds, you will have to make them dds, and then change the texture paths in nifskope (or blender) to your new dds files. Gwyvern
err.... the textures i opened in blender (gauss rifle and Gattling laser textures) and using the associated script, merged them into one texture, and then hit the present button to package the texture with the model... where does that leave me? also i dont think i have the normal maps applied...how do i fix that? still kinda wondering if that would cause the <!>
Quetzlsacatanango
In nifskope you can put the path to your regular textures and normal map(s).
Gwyvern
and that should fix the <!>?
Quetzlsacatanango
No... selecting all your meshes and then exporting should, although I didn't try it in geck/game, only nifskope. It showed up fine there once I did that.
