HELP (yeah I have no clue what im doing)

Ok, so here is what im doing (its only for personal use so I hope I didnt violate anything). So I downloaded the HSLI robes mod for a mage playthrough I was planing to do (seriously I have never played through as anything but a warrior) and I discoverd the Princess Drake armor set, and went WOOT another warrior playthrough (I seriously like warriors sue me). So as usual I couldnt leave the stuff well enough alone (yeah its an issue I admit it openly) so to make it look more warriorish I added a 6-1 chainmail pattern to the upper body (it looks seriously sick), but I find myself with a small problem... I want to do a few things with the mesh, and I have ABSOLUTLY no idea how to, seriously I dont even know what tools I would need (outside the toolset obviously can anyone even play without it?) what I want to do is add a little skimpy loincloth skirt to it in a matching purple, and add a shoulderpad to it.

 

Now as I know almost zero about doing these things if anyone has any advice (even if its give up now before you smash your PC) it would be GREATLY apreciated.

Modding tools

As far as getting into trouble...as long as the stuff you are modifying of other people's work is just for you and you don't upload it onto the Nexus, (or anywhere else) you are fine. All mods are for your personal use. SHARING them with others is where you can get into trouble.
