Planes of Oblivion

Recommended Posts

I posted elsewhere that I just rush to the Sigil Stone and get on with the interesting parts of the game. However I never took the trouble to explore one of these planes properly until last night.

I read an article about Hatred Key Keepers, enchanted weapons and secret tunnels called IIRC fume vaults. And sure enough, when I went to look, there they were!

Are they mentioned in the game guide? As sure as hell they are otherwise very unlikely to be found.

So I ask if anyone has ever taken the trouble to explore thoroughly the world behind the Gates to Oblivion? And what besides the three things I mentioned above did you find?

Except from some side towers you didn't need to go in, I haven't found anything special. I thought fume vents was just the name of one of the caves you need to go through to reach the main tower (some planes are like that) I can't remember seeing any caves that didn't lead anywhere.

Oh there was one thing. On one plane I actually found two gates. Two entrances to the same plane... :D

I did once ( Belive me I was REALYL bored that day) and all I found was caves, boring, boring, dark places, lave, broken bridges, walls, more walls, and a whole 2 hours of wasted time. I really hate the Plane of oblivion, since some lvls take soo much time to get to the sigil stone, (the ones where you gotta go trough the caves). Only good thing I ever found in there was a longsword of the blaze and some unique armor forgot its name.

Yeah, it's mentioned in the game guide. But I didn't go explore because I don't explore the Planes of Oblivion. I have better things to do with my time in Cyrodiil than to spank Daedra ass with my sword (well, I don't spank them, I thrust it up said asses)!

There are seven possible planes of Oblivion generated randomly as you enter the gate. If you save just before you enter, you can reload immediately until you get a plane you like. Similarly when you enter the tower gate in most worlds (not the Portals of Natural Disaster AFAIK) you get one of five random towers. Again if you save and reload you can always ensure you get 'The Gore Steeple' which has those teleporters up avoiding all side tunnels. This is exploiting the randomness of the game to the players advantage because you are right, they are boring.

The fume vaults occur only in The Portals of Natural Disaster world. They lead you past two key keeping dremora into the huge leaning tower behind you (on entry) called The Embers of Hatred. It is very dark and rather odd walking up a leaning tower. It can only be accessed via the vaults. The tower has a powerful enchanted daedric bow and enchanted arrows and an enchanted mace that are not the usual over-heavy stuff IIRC. The items are always there, they are not randomly generated and will be in every similar world you visit if you want those arrows. However unless you are told how to find them the vaults are very difficult to reach.

Anyone who is interested PM me and I will send you a link to a site with detailed analysis of each of the seven planes.

Thanks for the tip Malchik. I checked your site, and wow, someone was having fun exploring Oblivion planes! By reading those tips on how to reach the Fume vent, I now know what you mean by

However unless you are told how to find them the vaults are very difficult to reach.

Thanks again, this will give me something to do in Oblivion, and hopefully reduce the borigness of exploring them planes. Has it ever happened to any of you, to fall down while on the bridge? it did to me, and I had to start allll over again :glare: . I sometimes get so pissed I put god mode on and swim trough the lava to get to the sigil stone tower.

Screw that, jump tweaks and a spell that raises acrobat 200+ points, jump over that lake, it takes a bit more skill, and is more exploitive.

Anyway, the only thing of interest I ever found while going through those caves was an exit to a small unreachable place beneath a bridge, and for my effort, 6 gold coins inside a fleshpod or something trivial.

Those lakes can be crossed even without uber spells or god mode. Stock up on restore health potions and fortify health potions, then just swim across drinking potions as necessary. The bandage mod is fantastic for this; the heal rate of the quality bandage can slow the lava damage to a snail's pace. Either that or select a heal spell and just mash the cast key until you've reached the other side. That won't get you across any of the larger lakes, but often the tower you need to get to is only across a relatively narrow moat frustratingly placed in the way.

I don't care much for the Planes of Oblivion... aside from the Sigil Stones, which can be nice, there's not much of interest for me. The only gates I normally pay any attention to are the ones associated with sidequests. As nice as some of the loot can be, there's stuff almost as good available in places that don't give my graphics card a heart attack.

dont say anything against me if this doesnt work, but a friend told me if u activate god mode and use the ring of skimming. u can walk on the lava and find small islands that hav chests with rare items in them. i hav not tried this do to the fact that i dont really believe my friend is telling the truth. hes not a honest type. if u guys want to try it u can, but im not going into another 1 of those damn gates, just to walk into the lava.
