TES4Edit issue

When I make significant additions to a module with TES4Edit, the newly saved version contains fewer edits (and is smaller in size) than the original despite that I only added to it. The last time it happened, every record that was in the original module was gone, and only a fraction of the additions are there. It seems like the additions that are saved start somewhere in the middle and are complete from there to the last modification I made before saving. The changes made before that are nowhere to be found. At first I thought this was related to saving multiple times in one session, but this last time I only saved once before quitting. Small modifications (a few records) seem to get saved ok ( at least if I save and quit), and newly created modules seem to get saved regardless the size. I haven't tried saving frequently during a session, only as the prompts came up. So I guess that's the next step. But any suggestions would be immensely appreciated, as I have lost several hours to this issue already.

Edit:

Ok, so I was manually saving every few minutes and the .save.### files were constantly growing until I saved shortly after a temporary record snafu: when I first clicked on a conflicted record it showed a different record that I had already copied into my patch; I skipped it to copy a few other records and when I returned to it it showed the correct info. So I copied and then one more record and saved, and the file size dropped to 1kb. I think, but I'm not certain, that I also copied a record to my patch by mistake and deleted it around that time too.
