G.E.C.K Skin Problem

Hey guys! I'm pretty new to modding and stuff, and I've got this problem I can't get past.

I'm sorry, this post is probably going to get a little messy, but please bear with me.

My intention was to copy ArmorNVNCRTrooper and paste a picture to it, so that I could see it in-game.

For this I used the Fallout 3 Archive Utility to extract a .BSA, place the modified .DDS files in the extracted folder

and then create a new .BSA archive from that folder. I used Photoshop CS5 with the NVIDIA .DSS plug-in to modify the .DDSs.

Then I used Texture Replacer 2.0 to put the .DSSs into the .NIF. This went smoothly, but when I previewed the .NIF in G.E.C.K

I found that the torso of my model was purple.

So my question is, why is the model's torso purple?

Here's some extra information.

- I named the files Experimental.nif and Experimental.dds, I also got

an Experimental_n.dds which is just a duplicate of trouperclothes_n.dds.

- I also tried to use GIMP, but no luck. The torso was still purple.

- When I tried to load the modified .NIF into NifSkope I got this error:

- Here's the .NIF loaded up in Texture Replacer.

- .DSS loaded up in Photoshop CS5:

(Don't mind the picture, it's just to show you guys I put something there.)

Thank you guys!

- Sincerely, ZyrteK

I haven't tried to modify NIF files for FO3, but from the looks (and my limited experience with Niftools from Civ4) the Nifskope clearly shows you that your Skindata is wrong. It means that your .nif wrapping data is broken.

What's with the "I used Texture Replacer 2.0 to put the .DSSs into the .NIF" action? I couldn't google the correct tool, and what did it do? AFAIK the only thing you need to change is the path to your texture, and you can do it with a Nifskope. I am a bit lost when people use so many tools when they can use only one :).

And finally, it's DDS, not DSS. DDS = DirectDraw Surface.
