TodaY
I am making a mod that includes statues of a lot of creatures - vanilla and SI.I plan on adding these in cryodiil, perhaps some in SI, not sure about that yet. But, I modified meshes from SI for these statues, which means I can't use the default SI mesh, therefore creating SI dependancy. How would I go around getting SI dependancy in a non-SI mod? David Brasher
Maybe you should also include some Shivering Isles clutter in your mod. You could even include several statues that are 100% unmodded vanilla Shivering Isles. Then if a pirate who had not purchased Shivering Isles tried to play your mod, he would get missing meshes and textures and hopefully even CTDs. Because legally, you cannot port content from SI and release it unless the mod requires SI to work right. What about textures? Maybe you could have new meshes and vanilla textures and remove the vanilla textures from your upload.

If a pirate who had not purchased Shivering Isles tried to play the mod, everything would be fine for them. They'll have a pirate copy of Shivering Isles so they'll have the vanilla resources just like anyone who bought Shivering Isles did. Still, all suggestions are good ones, as those who haven't bought or pirated Shivering Isles will be missing some content if they try to use this mod, and thus might be encouraged to purchase Shivering Isles if what does work from the mod appeals to them enough. There's always going to be piraters, nothing we can do about that but report them when they let it slip they pirated. As for what I'm going to do, is probably make a version of the same esp with all items added to SI and includes SI statues, and just leaving those out in the vanilla version. David Brasher
There can be different types of pirating. People start running into semantic difficulties. Someone may have developed a really precise vocabulary for talking about it but I don't know that jargon. Here are some of the kinds of "pirating": (1) People who make illegal copies of a legal copy of Shivering Isles they bought.(2) People who upload Shivering Isles for people to download.(3) People who download an illegal copy of Shivering Isles someone uploaded.(4) People who buy or receive illegally burned CD ROMs of Shivering Isles.(5) People who download mods with Shivering Isles content without possessing a legal or pirated copy of Shivering Isles in an attempt to experience aspects of the expansion without spending any money. Modders really can't do much to interdict the people in categories 1-4 unless they stumble across them while they are breaking the law or run across their illegal download points. But modders can and should construct their mods so that people in the 5th category can't have fun playing mods they are not allowed to play. So it might be imprecise for me to use the word "pirates" but there is a certain group of people that modders can avoid giving satisfaction to. If vanilla Shivering Isles statues were put into a mod with modded Shivering Isles statues, the mod would not work right for "pirates" who did not possess Shivering Isles because they would lack meshes and/or textures for these unmodded statues which were not included with the mod. The game could even CTD in some cases.
Shadowfen
The game could even CTD in some cases. Especially if you add a doonce script that refers to an SI resource.
