NMC or someone please help

Hi. My specs are Windows 7 Home 64 bit, i7, 6GB DDR3 1066 RAM, ATI 5870 1GB VRAM GDDR5

I have recently started adding mods via the FOMM. I've got the idea and concept of everything thanks to this forum and google! I just got around using my saved games from windows LIVE and figured out how to bypass LIVE when running the Large Address Aware Enabler (so fallout can view/utilize up to 4GB RAM) as my saved games were not showing up after I set the value to "make large address aware" I simply moved the LIVE saved files back one step to the Fallout3 folder destination documents/MyGames/Fallout3/Saves. I then enabled the large address aware so I assume Im using it (Is there any way to check/know for sure?)

My question is this...I recently installed NMC's FULL texture pack which was 5 parts....I used winrar then my FOMM to add/extract the first pack...BAM...it installed great and looks gorgeous....ONLY THEN DID I NOTICE I MISSED THE 3 PART MAX BUMPMAPS! My question is this. Is the MAX BUMPMAPS worth it and if so can I simply download the 3 parts and have my FOMM add it in/extract it by itself? I was under the assumption that I should have downloaded those MAX BUMPMAPS along with the 5 part FULL texture packs....seeing that when you extract only the first part the rest 4 come with it, as would have the extra 3 bumpmaps...Am I able to now at this point merely download the 3 part MAX BUMPMAPS and extract the first one? Or will this not work? Thanks!

No help? Just wondering if the max bumpmaps are worth it (I currently have the full texture pack) and if so, am I able to download the 3 parts and extract the first via mod manager?? Or is my only option to uninstall the full texture pack and then re-download all 5 parts plus 3 part bumpmaps then extract the first tecture part....

If your machine can handle it, yes, from my point of view its worth it.

Since its mainly "textures", you can change them middle game, just add the files with fomms package manager for safety.

Thanks. so Ive got 2 questions.

1. I have the FULL texture pack installed. Does the MAX bumpmaps enhance the eye candy/textures noticebly above the FULL pack? If its just going to take more resources/lag my game without noticable eye candy then Im hesitant to install it

2. To install, do I simply download all 3 parts to the max bumpmaps and just exract the first part via package manager?

Bump maps are used to add depth to textures, for example, a dent in a machine will look deeper and more realistic instead of the shallow scratchy of original.

If you can notice or care about that kind of detail then by all means download it, in the end its up to your preferences.

Fomm can decompress rar files?

Well, at least what i do is decompress only the first file (after removing the numbers as said by nmc) then create a fomod with fomm.

Thanks. That was very informative. I def. want the bump maps as my rig is more than capable to handle it (Core i7 - 6GB RAM - ATI 5870 1 GB GDDR5 DX11)

I have fomm. Yes I removed the numbers per the directions. The mod looks great! Where I am confused is that originally the directions are to download all 5 parts to the full texture pack, THEN DOWNLOAD ALL 3 PARTS TO THE BUMPMAPS, then extract the first file (first full texture file pack). Now from my understanding (which correct me if I'm wrong) is that when you ask the package manager in fomm to add/extract the first texture pack part/file, it "runs" or extracts all 8 parts to produce the 1 fomod! Now that I have already produced the fomod (with only the 5 parts), can I merely download the 3 parts to the bumpmaps and add/extract the first part from package manager and it will merge those bumpmaps into the existing fomod? Or will it create ANOTHER mod aside from the existing NMC texture mod? Im confused bc If it creats another mod, they will run side by side, rather than as one, as originally designed?

The bump maps pack is separate from the textures one, you only need to extract these 3 rars from bump and create a fomod with them.

bump maps work side by side with textures.

So, you'll have 1 fomod for textures and 1 for bumps. They'll overwrite different files so they can be used together even if one of them is already installed.

It doesnt matter if its only one fomod or two, or even three if you feel like it, the only thing this will do is add another entry to your fomm package manage. The files they have to overwrite will be overwritten regardless.

Thank rgx- I see. So they overwrite and merge the files to create one mod.

So simply do the same process as I did with the full 5 part txture pack? Download the 3 bumpmaps, using package manager in fomm, choose "add" and have ONLY PART 1 of the bumpmaps extracted/installed? Then I assume I will have a "bumpmaps" mod added to the list beside my existing NMC texturre pack? Click the activate button and make sure both are checked upon launch and they will work in conjunction with eachother? Thanks!!!!!!

I suggest you use winrar to decompress the packs(part 1 only) because i dont know how fomm handles multi-part rar files, or rar at all. Then you just select add files from folder on fomm package manager.

Right.

Just a tip, IF your game starts crashing use purge cell from nmcs page or from here: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7817

Great thanks!

EDIT:

As far as fomm and rar/multi-rar go, what I did with the full texture pack mod was simply downloaded all 5 rar's to my downloads folder then ran fomm's package manager and choose "add" then pointed it to the first rar package and clicked ok...it extracts/(decompresses?) it (all 5) and makes the mod! It seemed to have worked?? I hope?!!! The textures look much better than prior? Any chance here that it only extracted and installed the first rar and not following 4?

I will install the max bumpmaps when I get home later. Should I go ahead and install the Purge Cell Buffers anyway for piece o f mind? Or only if it starts stuttering?

Last question i promise

I'm constantly tweaking my .ini for best visuals....with 6GB of DDR3 1066 RAM installed, what values do you suppose are optimal for these two lines?

uInterior Cell Buffer=

uExterior Cell Buffer=

Right now i've got interior at 32

and exterior at 288

I also bypassed Games for Windows LIVE so I can run the 4GB of RAM enabler (64bit sees 4 GB now)
