LoganCormier
Hokai, so.i've been messin around with oblivion lately, just started actually using mods. Deadly Reflex seems like... well, basically the most popular recreational mod, so I downloaded the latest version. Something is wrong with winzip and it won't extract right into the data folder (it will but it gets errors and cancels at the end of the extraction), so I manually put everything in its place. So I unpacked everything from Deadly Reflex. I have "DeadlyReflex - Combat Moves.esp", "DeadlyReflex - Timed Block + Very High Damage.esp", "HorseCombatMaster.esm", "Mounted_Spellcasting Deadly Reflex Compatible.esp" files and the "Contains cleansave esp" folder in the main Oblivion directory, and I did successfully install the latest obse. However, when I try to activate the 3 main files and the 1 extra file (the extra being timed block + very high damage) from the Data Files from the Oblivion splashscreen, nothing from Deadly Reflex is there. I did make sure to unpack everything else into the right locations. So yeah that's my prob with deadly reflex. So now onto realistic force. I downloaded "SI Compatible Realistic Ragdolls and Force v3-5011", put everything in the right place (manually again), and it comes up to activate the esp's in the data files from the splashscreen, and I activated them, but I don't think it's working. Is it maybe working but I'm just not noticing its effects? Also, I downloaded one mod (Assassins Creed armor/weps mod) successfully and have used it already, so... yeah, it's not just a problem with mods in general. Also, how are you supposed to get to the splashscreen/data files activation if you're using obse? I just open Oblivion directly from the disc on my comp, which brings up the splashscreen, but when you use obse, it just skips right to the game. So do I have to find a different route that goes through obse to use deadly reflex or... And now with obmm. Everythings fine, ran into the running as admin, fixed it, but what the hell is the virtual store that my comp apparently moved stuff to? I suppose it's too late as I accidentally clicked yes to moving them back a few seconds ago, but is that gonna mess stuff up or am I okay? thanks a bunch guys. Here's my splash screen/data files screen and here's my directory again thanks for any answers!!!
Tushaar
1. Deadly reflexes mods aren't quite there where they should be :) All esp, esm and bsa files + texture and meshes aso folders have to be in DATA folder :) Oblivion/data/ :) You put them to Oblivion/ folder and that's why it doesn't work2. The realistic force mod you can test out easily. Kill a npc and grab him/her from the umm leg. You should be able to lift the npc off the ground :) And about splashscreen, i recommend you to download obmm - oblivion mod manager which acts as a mod/load order utility and when you launch the game from obmm it launches automatically obse also :)
Smooth613
You should reinstall to a new location, outside of Program files, to prevent permission problems. i.e. C:\Games\Oblivion - This is related to your last question, about VirtualStore actually, but I feel it's among the most important. UAC, a security feature, can cause problems when files within the Program Files directory are changed or altered by other applications. Windows views this as a malicious act, a security threat, and blocks the operation. Solution: Install to a different location as previously mentioned. As mentioned, the Deadly Reflex files are not in the proper directory. They belong in the Oblivion\Data directory. In fact all mods and their resources go in this directory and it's sub directories. Always read the documentation provided with each individual mod for more information. Do not assume they all work the same or you'll only create a huge mess have many headaches. For Realistic Force, ensure you are using THIS version. (ID-21572) You say you're using the SI fixed V3 version but the file ID you provided (-5011) states otherwise. Download the version in the link I provided to ensure you have the proper version. Also you're only supposed to use one of the esp files, not all three. Choose one according to what type of force you want applied, Low, Medium, or High, and activate only that one. Remove the other two form your data directory. I suggest you keep all original archives in a remote location for backup. It also keeps your installation folder much cleaner. For example I have an Oblivion Mods folder for archives only. This way I can view and alter them, if necessary, before installing. You should also get Oblivion Mod Mangaer, aka (OBMM). Timeslip's site has plenty of good information. Another good site loaded with information is Tomlong's site. Later on you'll want to check into Wrye Bash, but not now. At the moment you don't have enough mods to facilitate the use of Wrye Bash. Stick with OBMM, for now. Good luck.
