Vegtam
Since the Service Rifle resembles the classic AR-10 even more so than an AR-15 shouldn't it be chambered in .308? The AR-10 is primarily chambered for 7.62x51mm caliber, but can fire .308 just fine. I feel as if the Service Rifle becomes ineffective mid-late game and fails to keep up with other 5.56x45mm weapons. While it might be imbalanced in some cases, the 5.56 can take out most things quite easily early game regardless. I know myself that I often found .308 in the Wasteland long before I was ever able to obtain a Sniper Rifle (or be at the level where vendors sell them). I just feel it would offer more variety for the .308 cartridge in the game and give the Service Rifle more use later on. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts were, I saw it as a design oversight but that's just my opinion. Perhaps someone could even mod it, just some food for thought. http://www.gunslot.com/files/gunslot/images/61236.jpg
Budweiser120
no because it is an AR-15 but it has a wooden stock similar to the AR-10 however the mag well and housing is too small to accommodate the 7.62x51mm (.308) that the AR-10 fires not to mention the diameter of the barrel is to small when compared to the other .308 chambered weapons and in game it is chambered for the 5.56x45mm like the AR-15. Also it has a triangular hand guard patterned after the Vietnam era M-16A1 (tho it's wood not polymer) which neither the Ar-10 or 15 had..it also lacks the charging handle on the rear (or top under the carry handle in the case of the original ar-10) and instead it is located on the moving bolt on the right side where the brass ejects. SO, technically it isn't identical to any of those models but it's closest to the AR-15 the service rifle is fine in it's current caliber in the vanilla game.. tho I agree it is useless later on in game but that's fine since you can get it so early on and there are much better weapons that come into play fast and if they had used the Ar-10 instead of AR-15 and made it a .308 it would be way overpowered because you can get it so early... there are many mods already to make it full auto or up the damage slightly.. tho this being a modding site I see no reason why someone can't change it to a .308 and the model into an ar-10 if that's what they prefer.. I mean that's what this site is here for right? oh and the reason your finding .308 rounds so much earlier before the sniper rifle is because you get the hunting rifle well before the sniper rifle and it's chambered in .
VicVegas84
I'd say it was designed more to appear as an AR-15. The problem with your argument is the difference in damage between weapons like the service rifle and the assault carbine. There should be little difference but in game it is huge.
