Need some direction

Hello everyone, I know my way around the geck, I made few new levels, and I made the icons for 20th century weapons. But now I want to do some thing new and I'm not finding any tutorials that are helpful. I want to add some of the weapons from the 20th Century Weapons mod into new vegas. I figure I can start with the AR15 since that's basicly what the service rife is, so the animations will fit perfectly. Since I'm porting a model that is already a .nif and set up for fallout 3 it shouldn't be that hard but I have no idea where to start. Also I am worried that any fallout 3 tutorial wont tell me how to set up the iron sites.
