EEC Markets

Most modders seem to have get around the problems of merchants not having enough gold and/or having unreliable inventory the same way: By simply adjusting the merchants' chests of the existing merchants.

They ignore the lore-friendly solution that they literally visit, every time they do the Thieves' Guild quest "Scoundrel's Folly."

The East Empire Trading Company is the closest thing Tamriel has to a Fortune 500 corporation. They use enormous staffs and large, complex shipping routes to have as much of Tamriel's resources distributed to as many of tamriel's citizens as possible. Ebony, for example, is most prevalent in Morrowind and the immediately surrounding areas. But thanks to the East Empire Trading Company, it's available everywhere in slightly limited quantities.

The East Empire Trading Company HAS branches in Skyrim! There are a few quests that involve working for, or trying to sabotage, them. So, why don't they sell stuff?

I'd like to see a mod that adds an EETC market in each hold capital, containing about 25 merchants each. These merchants would have huge amounts of gold (like ... 1000 for the food merchants, and 10,000 for the blacksmith merchants), and also, carry reliable stock. Blackmisth merchants would pay you for any ore you dig up, and food merchants would pay for crops.

These markets would be huge.

  • An entire interior zone the size of the capitol building,
  • The "trading floor" would consist mainly of merchants and customers,
  • Blacksmiths, apothecaries, and enchanters would be immediately behind them, in view of the customers, toiling away endlessly to create new items for the merchants to sell. They can train you in their respective crafts, while the merchants can train you in speech.
  • their storage area would be in the back, heavily guarded 24/7 by EETC Mercenaries who operate in 12 hour shifts, but if you could slip past those guys, wealth beyond your wildest dreams would await you. Unlike the EETC Warehouse in Solitude, however, these boxes and crates would actually be searchable.
  • The mercenaries would have "fortify sneak" and "fortify pickpocket" enchantments, in order to make it harder for you to sneak past them unnoticed, or pickpocket their keys.
  • The merchants would keep about 1,000 of each ingot, 1,000 of each ingredient, 1,000 of each arrow, 1,000 of each soul gem, and at least ten (10) full sets of armor and complete selection of weapons (ten sets, instead of just one, so you can have a few other sets to give to your followers). Because now, there's no lore-friendly reason for them not to have reliable inventories.

Anyone else thing this is a good idea?
